Twenty species of the most colorful snakes in the world.


There are 15 families of snake, 456 genera and there are 2,900 species. The smallest snake, the

Thread snake is just 10 cm long and the longest, Python reticulates is 28 ft long. Just a mere thought

of snake scare the hell out to many. But with this list of colorful snake you will surely admire them.

1. Brazilian Rainbow Boa

This uniquely colored snake which is scientifically called Epicrates cenchria is a boa found in Central

and South America. This species is known for its attractive iridescent sheen.

2. Emerald Tree Boa

Most species of boas are colorful like the Corallus caninus, a non-venomous snake found in the

rainforests of South America. Adults grow to about 6 feet or 1.8 m in length.. They have highly

developed front teeth that are likely proportionately larger than those of any other non-venomous snake.

3. Green Vine Snake

This snake with pretty geometrical color pattern is also called the Long-nosed Whipped Snake or

Ahaetulla nasuta is a slender green tree snake found in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar,

Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. The green vine snake is diurnal and mildly venomous. They are

slow moving, relying on camouflaging as a vine in foliage. The snake expands its body when disturbed

to show a black and white scale marking. Also, they may open their mouth in threat display and point

their head in the direction of the perceived threat.

4. Albino Burmese Python

This famous and colorful species of python, the Burmese Python or Python molurus bivittatus, is the

largest subspecies of the Indian Python and one of the 6th largest snakes in the world. This snake is

native to rain forest areas of Southeast Asia. The Burmese python average growing up to 5.5 meters

(18 ft) and weighing up to 71 kilograms (160 lb). It continues to grow throughout life.

5. Nelson's Milksnake

This awesome-looking snake is the Nelson's Milksnake or Lampropeltis triangulum nelsoni is a type of

king snake that is found in Mexico to the Pacific Coast. It is similar in size to other king snake, averaging

42 inches long (107 cm), and like them, is non-venomous.

6. Mexican Milk Snake

This attractive species of snake known as the Mexican Milk Snake orLampropeltis triangulum annulata

is a species of milk snake native primarily to northeastern Mexico but it can be found as far north as the

US, in southwestern Texas.

7. Red Rat Snake

This beautifully and brightly colored snake called Red Rat snake or Elaphe guttata, is also commonly

known as Corn Snake and found in North America. They subdue their small prey with constriction. Adult

size is 1.2 to 1.8 meters (3.9 to 5.9 ft). Simple care makes them popular pet snakes. In the wild, they

usually live around 15-20 years, but may live as long as 23 years in captivity.

8. Morelia spilota

This species of python called Morelia spilota is a large snake found in Australia, Indonesia and New

Guinea. The subspecies are commonly named the Carpet and Diamond pythons. This species traps

or constricts its prey until they suffocate.

9. Iridescent Shieldtail

Also named Two-lined Black Shieldtail or Melanophidium bilineatum is a species of snake found in South

India. This species is found at an elevation of about 5,000 feet.

10. Bitis nasicornis

This big viper known for its striking color pattern and prominent horns on its nose named Bitis nasicornis

is a venomous snake found in Central Africa. It is a large and stout snake, ranging in length from 72 cm

to 107 cm.

11. Bitis parviocula

This species called Bitis parviocula with spectacular geometric markings is a venomous snake found

only in Ethiopia. It is large viper with a broad head with a maximum recorded specimen 75.2 cm in length.

12. Green Tree Python

Scientifically named Morelia viridis is a pythion found in New Guinea, islands in Indonesia, and Cape

York Peninsula in Australia. Adults average 90-120 cm (3-4 feet) in length, with a maximum grow to

about 213 cm (7 ft). The scales have thermo-receptive pits.

13. Amazon Tree Boa (Corallus enydris)

This brightly colored species of snake named the Amazon Tree Boa is found in Costa Rica, Panama,

and northern South America, through most of Venezuela and Guyana, and south and westward through

Amazonian Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil.

14. Coral Snake

Micrurus fulvius is a venomous snake found only in the southeastern US. Not to be confused with its

harmless mimics, the scarlet snake and the Scarlet Kingsnake.

15. Eastern Blackneck Garter Snake

This pretty colored snake called Eastern Blackneck Garter Snake or Thamnophis cyrtopsis ocellatus

grows to a full length of 16 inches to 20 inches with the longest ever recorded measuring 43 inches. It

is friendly and gets accustomed to a life of captivity.

16. Coast Garter Snake

This species of snake is called Coast Garter Snake or Thamnophis elegans terrestris have toxins

in their saliva and the bite can produce mild reaction in humans. They are not considered dangerous

to humans, although they excrete a foul smelling musk when handled.

17. Paradise Tree Snake

This beautiful snake is also called Paradise Flying Snake and scientifically named Chrysopelea

paradise. It is a species of snake found in Asia. It can glide by stretching the body into a flattened

strip using its ribs. It is mostly found in moist forests and can cover a horizontal distance of about

100 meters in a glide from the top of a tree.

18. Red-tailed Green Ratsnake

This snake's color goes along well with the color of nature - green. Red-tailed Green Ratsnake or

Gonyosoma oxycephalum is a species of snake found in the region where I live - Southeast Asia. It

is a thin snake with powerful and rough scales on its bottom, which makes it ideal to move and climb

trees. Its tail is red hence the name. It lives and spends its life in the trees. It feeds mostly on small

mammals. Its body can grow up to 2.3 meters and its average age is 15 years.

19. Scarlet Kingsnake

This beautifully colored snake that is found in pine flatwoods, hardwood hammocks, prairies, cultivated

fields, and suburban areas is the Scarlet Kingsnake or Lampropeltis triangulum elapsoides. It is a type

of king snake that is found in Florida, USA. It usually measure under 20 inches long. The maximum recorded

length was 68.5cm (27 inches). Neonates (newborns) can be as small as 3 ½ inches.

20. Red-headed and tailed Blue Snake

The blue and red snake is a Blue Malayan Coral Snake According to http://www.ecologyasia.com the Blue Malayan Coral Snake is "a beautiful, but highly venomous front-fanged species - if bitten, its neurotoxic venom can cause death. It inhabits primary forest floors, but can also be found in mature secondary forest. Nocturnal in habits, it may sometimes be encountered stretched across forest trails in the early morning. The body is dark blue, with a lighter blue stripe along each side. The head, tail and ventral surface are bright red. Its primary food source is other snakes. There are 3 sub-species : Maticora bivirgata bivirgata inhabits Java, and M. b. flaviceps is found from Burma, Thailand and Cambodia through West Malaysia and Singapore to Sumatra and various islands of the Riau Archipelago. M. b. tetrataenia inhabits Borneo. "
