A short and simple guide to fairies and their purpose.

What Are Fairies?

Fairies are magical beings of several different classifications; they come in more shapes and sizes than humans, more colors too!

Most people don't know that fairies are really angels. The little fairies that most people think of are angels in training. God gives them specific tasks to take care of (such as putting dew on the grass or helping wild birds find their way South each winter) so that they learn how to be true angels and watch over people. There are also fairies who are as big as people! They are the grown up angels who are in charge of and take care of the little ones.

What Jobs Do Fairies Do?

The duties of fairies are vast, but they all have to do with nature. Generally, fairies can be grouped into six categories: earth, air, water, fire celestial and household.

While fairies take their jobs seriously, they are very playful and sometimes even mischievous! Silly household fairies, for example, are responsible for tangling hair and playful water fairies put puddles right in your path!

Earth Fairies

Earth fairies take care of the things that we normally call "nature."  These fairies are responsible for helping flowers to bloom, knocking the leaves off of trees in the winter, helping animals find enough to eat, keep warm, etc., putting nutrients in the dirt, and many other things. Earth fairies usually have an animal best friend and live inside of plants or with their animal friend.

Water Fairies

The fairies of water are in charge of making it rain, making rivers flow, and keeping waves in the ocean. Like the earth fairies, they often have an animal best friend. Most water fairies live in seashells or bubbles. There are many water fairies because the Earth is nearly 70% water; that's a lot of work to do!

Fire Fairies

There aren't as many fire fairies as there are some other kinds, but there jobs are just as important! Fire fairies keep things burning, when you see something that is on fire you can bet that fairies are at work. The dancing of the fire fairies is what makes flames. They also are the cause of lightening as it races towards the earth.

Air Fairies

Air fairies are the ones who make pictures in the clouds. They almost all have wings, and their duties are everything that pertains to the sky. Every morning and every night they paint the sky to give us sunrises and sunsets, they huff and puff to create winds which cool things off and scatter seeds.  They also direct flying birds the right way. Air fairies live in cloud castles and cottages.

Celestial Fairies

Celestial fairies are the most numerous of all! They put the stars in the sky every night and keep the universe spinning. Teams of fairies all push on planets and stars to make them spin give us such things as the night and day. They also are the ones who made the constellations, pictures in the stars.

Household Fairies

Household fairies are a little bit more grown up than the other types. Their jobs include things around a house like putting dust on shelves, helping pots boil, and sometimes washing dishes. Household fairies are very good friends with dust bunnies and spiders.

Meeting Fairies

To get to know the fairies one must first believe in them. After that, spend time in nature seeing all that they do and the wonder of God's creation. It is very hard to meet the fairies in person, but you can often feel their presence, especially with a fairy garden.

Making a Fairy Garden

Fairy gardens are special places that a human creates for a fairy. Sometimes you can glimpse a real fairy garden, a place where fairies live, but not often so it is useful to make your own. A fairy garden should include all of the fairy elements in someway. There should also be a place for the fairies to relax and of course, a fairy circle. Fairies circles are portals which help fairies zip from one place to the next instantly. Fairy portals, like fairies, come in many sizes and are usually made out of mushrooms. People must be careful never to step inside a fairy circle, you never know where, or when, you might end up. Once your fairy garden is complete, make sure to take good care of it. Even if you never actually see the fairies with your eyes, you can know that they use and appreciate your fairy garden. As a show of thanks you will probably have more than one little fairy taking on the extra job of watching over and keeping you safe.
