How to Play .iso or Iso File

Dec 12th, 2010 by Samuel Augustin

Many people don't actually know how to play a .iso file and it is actually quite easy to play it once you know the right method.

What is an .iso or ISO file?

An ISO or .iso file is an image file of any DVD or CD which is not readable to the computer and it is in the form of a virtual disc. The aim of the user is to make it readable to the computer so that it can be played just like playing any other DVD or CD.

Different Types of Files for Different Consoles

There are many consoles all around and many of them use ISO files but the most widely used of them are PSP and PC.

In PSP

If you are a PSP owner then it is very important for you to know how to use .iso files. Once you download a .iso file all you have to do it is move it into the correct folder of the psp in the root (the first hard drive screen of the PSP with several folders like music, images and video) of the memory stick.

For example if you have got a game .iso file then you must move it into the "ISO" folder of your PSP.

Note: You can only use an .iso file in your psp if you have got a custom firmware installed in your PSP.

In PC

It doesn't actually matter what kind of file is your .iso file but there is usually only one basic method to open and play it. Here is a step by step procedure which will teach you how you can play a .iso file:

Step 1

Once you have got your .iso file then there can be two possibilities: First possibility is that your file might be appearing as .rar file. The second possibility is that your .iso file might appear as a non-readable file. if it appears as a non-readable file then it is perfectly alright but if it appears as .rar file then you must change it to a non-readable file and you can do that by right clicking on the file (.iso), then choose click open, then choose options, then settings, then integration, after that uncheck the "ISO" check box. Now your file would change into a non-readable file.

Note: Here "non-readable" file refers to a file which the computer doesn't know how to open with the softwares loaded on the machine and you must specify a program to open the file.

Step 2

Now that you got your proper .iso file there are two methods by which you can play the file: First method is that you can burn your .iso file on a disk and then play the disc. The second method is that you can open the .iso file using a program. In this tutorial i will focus on the second method.

To download a good disk image emulator (programs which open .iso files) you must type the name of famous programs like : daemon tools, alcohol and power ISO. You must download any of these programs. Alcohol is a paid software.

Step 3

Now that you have got your program and your .iso file all you need to do is open it. Open your disc mounting program (daemon tools, alcohol and power ISO or any other) and then click on "mount image" (differs form program to program) and then locate your .iso file.

Step 4

Once you have located your .iso file then it will appear as a disc file in your my computer and now you can use it regularly just the way you use any disc file.

Note: This tutorial is created, keeping in mind that the user is using a windows operating system.
