What are the purposes of the top struts and the lateral bracing? As you saw the lateral bracing help connect the two trusses. What other purpose do these members serve?

What are the purposes of the top struts and the lateral bracing? As you saw the lateral bracing help connect the two trusses. What other purpose do these members serve?
The lateral bracing and the top struts separate the top chords into smaller sections. By dividing the top chords into smaller sections, the smaller sections can handle compression much better. This is due to the fact that the shorter the member is the compression it can handle is much more than if it were longer. These two members are important because they improve the overall strength of the bridge.
