Whether you're looking to share business leads with someone local, or just to have a cup of coffee with someone who keeps cheerios in their desk. Or better yet, brings a laptop to playgroup; these are the tips you need to use if you're looking for other WAHMs in your community.

Networking with other WAHMs can be an important source of support when you're combining family and finances, infants and income, toddlers and well, trashed office spaces. In a traditional workplace, you're not putting laundry in the dryer while your project uploads, or researching statistics while breastfeeding. There are tricks and tips for dealing with the challenges of working at home that only other mothers can relate to. Whether you're having trouble juggling and need some helpful advice, or if you've learned it all the hard way and want to help others, or even if you just need to see the face of a real person who understands your lifestyle. If you're asking yourself “How can I meet WAHMS in my town?” Then here are a few ideas

Check the wahm.com website for moms in your town. Consider placing a listing and make plans to get together once a month to dish the dirt. You can share resources and advice with each other or just hang out.
Place an ad in your local newspaper or Craigslist for a WAHM's night out, and plan to meet at a local restaurant, art gallery of coffee shop. Once a month meetings work well for most moms
Spread the word among your local friends. If there's a MOPS or MOMS club in your town, you can let everyone know that you're a WAHM and that you're looking to make friends with other work at home moms.
Try posting a message on the bulletin board at the grocery store or at the drug store. You can announce your get-together and build up a database of local WAHMS to network with.
Consider forming a nonprofit, like the “Yakima WAHMS club.” to provide support and information to other wahms and moms who are looking for work at home job opportunities.
Notify the local business center or chamber of commerce, so they can share the information with other WAHMs and so that employers looking to hire WAHMs can have someone to call.
You might find WAHMS by scoping out free internet hotspots with playplaces, like McDonalds, Chick-Fil-A, shopping malls, cyber cafes or kid-friendly coffee shops.
Place an ad on your local craigslist to find other WAHMs. Just say “I'm looking for WAHMs in my area..” or list your area- whatever. Surely you can word your own ad, sorry!
Use your twitter account to find moms in your community. Use the search feature to search for your town and then check through the profiles to see if any of them are WAHMs. Many WAHM writers, graphic designers and web designers use twitter.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can end up broke if you spend more time networking than working. I think the word networking was deliberately crafted to replace the words “not working” and sucker people into wasting their time. Don't fall for it. Make a schedule and stick to it.
  • Never arrange to meet someone in a dark alley.
