How to Tips,Who and When

Knowing how much to tip and who to tip can be tricky, so here are a few tipping guidelines. Hopefully we all know by now to tip our waiters and waitresses at least fifteen to twenty percent. Most restaurants have very low pay expecting their employees to earn most of their income in tips.

Step1 gratuity tips The general tipping guidelines for bartenders is about the same for waiters and waitresses for a larger group or a dollar per round for smaller parties.

Not that we see ladies' room attendants very often any more but there is a rule for tipping them. If she offers you a towel fifty cents would be appropriate if she does anything special then a dollar would be in order if she does nothing but sit there, you may leave without tipping.

Hotel housekeepers do not usually receive a tip for a one night stay, for longer than one night depending on the service one to five dollars. Remember the nicer the hotel the more tip you should leave.

Room service a fifteen percent tip is a minimum, but check the bill first a lot of hotels add the gratuity into the bill already.

Bellhops should be tipped a dollar a bag for bringing the bags to your room.
Sky caps get one dollar per bag as well.

 
Step2 Your hairdresser gets a fifteen to twenty percent tip depending on the service and the shampoo person gets a dollar. The same rule applies to your barber but leave at least a dollar.
Manicurist and massage therapist should also get fifteen to twenty percent.

A doorman should get one to five dollars depending on the out of the ordinary service he provides.

The pizza delivery person should be paid the same as a waiter or waitress at fifteen to twenty percent.

If you receive good service form a repairman give him a ten to twenty dollar tip and you will always get good service. This includes painters and window washers.


Step3 Holiday tipping is a bit tricky as well you can give a gift certificate but a nice cash bonus will score you big points.

Maid/Housekeeper. Depending on how long she has worked for you and your own budget you may want to tip anywhere from twenty dollars to a hundred dollars.
This same rule applies to your hairdresser and manicurist.

Newspaper Carrier. If you get the paper daily and it lands somewhat near the porch ten dollars is reasonable.

Doorman. There is a very wide range here depending on your budget, where you live and how many special things he has done for you. the average amount is about a hundred dollars.

If you receive daily or weekly deliveries from Fed Ex, UPS or other delivery people including you mail carrier they should get ten to twenty dollars.

Plumbers and electricians do not get tipped

Never tip for bad service
