If setting up a new computer seems like a daunting task to you, just read these simple instructions and you'll be on your way in no time.

Step 1 First off you need to have a place to put the computer that is near a power source and preferably close to either your phone jack or cable connection if you have internet service. So clear off a space before you get started.
Step 2 Take the tower and put it on the desk. (The tower is the large boxy part of the computer.) Rotate it so that you can see the back.
Step 3 Keyboard Most modern computers are color coded so lets go through the list and connect each piece. Start with the smaller items like the Keyboard. The keyboard connects to a PS2 jack which is usually purple and round towards the top of the back of the PC.
Step 4 Next lets connect the mouse. It generally goes into the green PS2 connection right next to the keyboard jack. If your mouse has a flat rectangle connection instead of a round one then it needs to go into the USB slot instead.
Step 5 If you have a network or ethernet cable connect that to the back of the PC and then let it hang behind the desk or connect it to the modem/router/hub. This cable is rectangular and bigger than a phone cord and usually blue.
Step 6 Put the monitor on the desk now and connect that to the serial port on the back of the PC. This is usually a small rectangular, blue port.
Step 7 If your computer came with speakers, connect those next. Put one to each side of the monitor and connect the jack into the round "Out" port on the back of the PC which is usually green.
There may also be a cord to connect the speakers to each other and a power cord to plug into the wall or a power strip.
Step 8 If your computer came with a printer, connect that to the larger rectangular "Parallel" port or a USB port. The printer will also have a power cord which will have to be connected and plugged into the wall or power strip.
Step 9 The last step is to connect your computer to the power. Both your monitor and PC should have come with power cords which will have to be plugged in to them and then connected to the wall outlet.
Step 10 Now you should be able to turn the PC back around to face the front and re-arrange all your components on the desk so that it feels comfortable. You should be able to turn the computer on by pushing the round power button towards the bottom half of the front of the PC.
