How To Not Get Bumped From Your Flight

It happens, we rush to the airport, go through all the screening procedures, wait in line, and them bam!! We get bumped. Here's a tip to stop this from happening. Read more . . . .

When flying, if you do not want to get bumped from a flight that's been overbooked (most are these days), get to the gate an hour before departure and be the first to check in. When a flight is oversold and no passengers volunteer to be bumped, the last ones to check in are the first to be denied boarding.

Cheaper Flights - Good Tip

An airline flight that makes a stop between your departure city and your destination can sometimes be significantly cheaper than one that makes no stops. You may have to spend an extra hour or two on the ground, and you risk additional delays, but the savings may be worth it.

Curbside Check-in

Skip the crubside luggage check-in facility if at all possible and go directly to the ticket counter. Your luggage is more likely to be handled correctly, and you won't be expected to tip. If you must use airport curbside check-in, remember these are airport - not airline - employees. Double-check their work, especially the 3-letter destination code on your bags' tags. If you want to see your bags at the other end of your trip, tip these handlers.

Fare Wars

If you purchase an airline ticket and before you use it the airlines have a big fare war, you may be able to receive a refund for the difference. Check with your airline for the specific rules and regulations, and don't wait for them to call you. They won't.

First flight

Book the first flight of the day. When flights are delayed, they affect other connections. The earlier you leave, the more options you have. Avoid taking the last flight of the day if you must be at your destination the next morning. If that flight is cancelled, you're stuck.

Flight Strategy

Avoid flying on Fridays. Instead book your flight for a Tuesday or Wednesday if you can. Midweek travel is less crowded. Avoid flights that depart or arrive between 7:00 and 9:00 A.M. or 4:00 and 7:00 P.M. at any major airport. These are the busiest times of the day.

These are very useful tips and most of them were things that I did not know.  I had never even considered that if I booked the last flight of the day, I would be stranded for the night if that flight were cancelled.  I guess since a cancelled flight has never happened to me personally, I just hadn’t given it much thought.  I will consider it next time!
