Iobit Game Booster v 2 Review

Nov 17th, 2010 by kksonakiya

I first used Game Booster when my system failed to run GTA IV even on low settings.

I first used Game Booster when my system failed to run GTA IV even on low settings. However, when my new system came, I still had some fps issues and couldn’t play GTA IV on high settings. Even then, I could set the settings to medium and had great experience while playing the game.
Game Booster did help to improve some performance and fps, but to tell you the truth, if your system isn’t made to handle high-end games then no matter what you do, you’ll still feel that there no other way than to buy a new system that’s made for gaming.
I am not trying to confuse you or anything. I am just telling you the truth that lies between these things. So, let’s talk about new Game Booster V 2.0 and see if it helps like its predecessor too or not.
Interface
I hope you have used the beta version of Game Booster v 2, however, if you haven’t, then new Game Booster 2 might come as an amazing surprise for you. The black and red combination of GB 2 will give you a feel that at least this software is made to work for gaming. Here comes the hope of improving your games performance for the better.
Have a look at the Interface

I didn’t want you to see the rest of my screen because it was a bit messed up. Now… you can see that when you open this software, you’ll be able to easily boost the performance of your games or that’s what it says anyway!
You can see at the right bottom of my screen, a little pop-up with a game inside it and an option to Add More, this is a very handy option given by GB 2.0. You can just drag and drop shortcuts of your games and run it from there too (just double click and the game will run).
Other options at the left pane includes, updating Game Drivers, some downloadable Game Essentials software like Ventrilo, TeamSpeak, Xfire, etc., Game Defrag (one of most important features of Game Booster) and Game Tools (you can view your system’s gaming hardware right here).
Do you think that I missed System Tweaks option? No, I didn’t! When you click on this option, you’ll see two buttons, one stating Default and other, Top Performance.
It turns out that you will need to purchase Game Booster 2.0 if you want to enable Top Performance for $9.99 only.
Other options that require you to purchase are closing Non-Windows services. Means services that are not related to Windows and are running in background. If you want to select services that you want to close then you’ll have to register this software for $9.99 and I think that the price is not too high for a software like this.
The software is really easy to use and what I say sometimes ‘noobs-ready’, so anyone shouldn’t have any problems related to operating this software.

Conclusion
For $9.99, the software is totally worth it. As for performance, I recorded it via Fraps and not to my surprise the games ran just a little bit faster. I hope you could see Assassins Creed 2’s shortcut in that right corner in that little pop-up. The average FPS increased to 26FPS from 21 FPS and Min. and Max. FPS saw some improvement too.
However, since my machine was just able to handle that game, I could still see some stuttering going on as I played the game. So, personally, I think that you should try this software for as long as you like and when you feel like purchasing it, you can always buy it you know.
If you have used this software and have something to say about it then please let me know via comments here.
