By simply replacing threshold gaskets, you can save money on your energy bill. This article tells you how to replace them and give you other tips like this that you yourself can do to help reduce your energy bill.

Replace your threshold gaskets and save money on your energy bills. By replacing the gaskets you're blocking the air flow inside from leaking outside, or bocking the outside airflow from getting in, plus you wont need a carpenter to install the weather tight gaskets.

There are so many do it yourself jobs like this that can also reduce your energy bills. Here are a couple of examples before I get you started on how to replace those gaskets.

  • Sealing your doors with foam weather strips.
  • Sealing windows with v-strip weather strips.
  • Plugging holes with foam.
  • Replacing your thermostat with a programmable one.
  • Applying caulk around doors and windows.

Now, lets get started on the steps to replace your threshold gaskets.

  1. First you must unscrew the threshold. Metal thresholds are screwed to the floor. Remove the screws. Pry up the threshold, being careful not to damage the doorjambs.
  2. Then you have to remove the rubber gasket. Twist the tabs underneath the threshold to align them with the slots. The tabs are part of a bar that the gasket is mounted on. Remove the bar and gasket. IF there are no tabs, pull the gasket off the threshold with a pair of pliers.
  3. Now you fit the tabs in the threshold. Fit the tabs of the new gasket through the slots in the threshold. Twist the tabs with a pair of pliers to lock the gasket in place.
  4. Cut the gasket to length. Use a hacksaw to cut gaskets mounted on a tabbed metal bar. Cut unmounted gaskets to length with a utility knife.
  5. Lastly, reattach the threshold. Screw the threshold back in place using the original screws and holes.

Now that you've done this little handy job, you should definitely try a few more uncostly do it yourself jobs to reduce your energy bills so you can live a little more stress free.

If you follow these simple steps, tips and my advice, then you will definitely save money and have your house in better shape.
