How to jump higher and improve your vertical jump
WANT TO JUMP HIGHER AND DUNK LIKE THE PROS??? WITH MY ARTICLE YOU WILL LEARN TO JUMP HIGHER IN NO TIME!!! JUST FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS AND YOU WILL BE JUMPING 6-8 INCHES HIGHER IN NO TIME!!! DUNK LIKE TFB AND FLYING101!
The first thing that we need to cover is your weight. If you are overweight at all, you will see gains in your standing vertical if you simply lose your unnecessary weight.
Step 2
The next tip I have for you is a good warm up is essential. The most effective way of warming up before jumping is called a dynamic warm up. This type of warm up includes moving while stretching and increasing your range of motion. This gets your legs ready and able to use their full range of motion. Be sure to jog for about 5 minutes before performing this dynamic warm up. You want to have your muscles nice and warm and loose before you start stretching. Also be sure that you are not doing any STATIC stretches, because these have been shown to decrease your performance in explosive movements.(besides the hip flexor stretch which is static and should be performed before jumping)
Step 3
A simple very effective way of improving your standing vertical is by jumping rope. I would recommend jumping rope everyday. Not only is it great for your vertical, but it is an excellent cardio workout at the same time. Aim to start out slow and progressively go harder and for longer periods of time.
Step 4
The next tip I have for you is to begin weight lifting. Some essential lifts to increasing your standing vertical include the squat, snatch, clean and jerk, and push-press(these lifts are also known as Olympic lifts minus the push press). All these lifts are extremely beneficial for your standing vertical because they focus on powerful and explosive movements very similar to your standing vertical. I would definitely recommend that you consult with a personal trainer
or professional before attempting these lifts because if performed improperly, severe injuries can occur. Also when starting the lifts, be sure that you begin by focusing on correct form, not the amount you are lifting.
Step 5
The next tip I have for you is to start doing some plyometrics. To see the most gains from plyos, you will need to squat 1.5 or 2 times your body weight and have plenty of other strength built up. These are exercises to make you more explosive and reduce your ground contact time when jumping. These exercises can also help with your rebounding vertical say from multiple jumps(like rebounding in basketball) in a row or from stepping off a box. If you have never heard of them, I would suggest researching them more carefully. (a few exercises to make sure you do are depth jumps, weighted box jumps, line jumps, star jumps, squat hops, 1/4 squat jumps, bulgarian split-squat jumps, and many more)
Step 6
The next tip I have is to do workouts that incorporate the jumping motion. If you want to just jump and dunk, try putting on a weighted vest and overloading your loading and unloading phases. This will "trick" your muscles into getting used to heavier weights. For this kind of workout, just keep jumping until you see a steady decrease in the heights of your jumps
Step 7
be sure that you are using all the muscle groups you can when attempting to jump. To begin a standing vertical, start with your feet about shoulder width apart. Next you want to squat about a quarter of the way down and then on the way up explode with your legs and by swinging your arms simultaneously. Be sure to swing your arms because people lose out on valuable inches by neglecting this area of the jump.
Step 8
The next tip I have is to do sprints. Working on your top speed can help to recruit lots of quick twitch muscle fibers that are used during jumping as well as running. Try to do some research on the correct form and try to apply it to your workouts.
Step 9
The next tip I have for you is to TRAIN HARD. If your intensity isn't there, you aren't going to see any improvement. Just think about the saying practice how you play. When you go up to dunk a basketball, are you trying your hardest? if yes, then you are going to need to try as hard as you can when you are training.
Step 10
The best jump program I can recommend to you is the Vertical Jump Bible. This really tells you a lot about the science of jumping higher as well as detailed descriptions of the exercises that you should be performing. It is also nice because it isn't a one program fits all, it tries to fit the type of athlete you are. There are a lot of other good jump programs as well, but this is the best one if you are willing to pay money. Put in a little research, time, and effort and you will be jumping better in no time.
Step 11
