Great Tricks To Ace That Next School Tests

Students study, study, and study, but just cannot remember what they were suppose to prepare for - The big test. Here's some tricks! Read more . . . .

1. Recite. Read aloud. Recite what you're learing to yourself, a study partner, or a parent. Hearing and speaking can help information stick in your mind.

2. Write. Write what you want to learn and remember. This reinforces your reading.

3. Use Mnemonics. Make up words, names, or sentences to help you remember facts and ideas. Here is an example I used during school:

To remember a sequence, use a sentence or key words. For the colors of the spectrum, memorize ROY G. BIV - for Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet. For the Great Lakes, Try HOMES - for Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, and Superior.

To remember a date, try a rhyme. Example: In fourteen-hundred-and ninety-two, Columbus sailed the ocean blue . . . .

To remember the meaning of a word, associate it with something you know. Example: Mentally link "obnoxious" with a song or commercial that drives you crazy.

4. Overlearn. Keep studying something even after you know it. Overlearning is especially useful if you get very nervious during tests.

5. Visualize. Picture what the information looks like on the page you're studying. Make mental pictures of facts and ideas. Draw real pictures, if that helps you learn.

6. Apply what you learn in your everyday life. If you use it, you won't lose it.

Garrett Barttey says it best, " Never forget what you need to remember."
