Hidden Ways to Be Smart in School
Schools usually deal with 2 types of intelligence: language smarts and math smarts. These are what you're taught. and tested on. Which intelligence are you? Let's take a look . . . . .
1. Linguistic Intelligence. You enjoy writing, reading, listening, and speaking, and you do them with ease. You enjoy memorizing information and building your vocabulary, and you may be an excellent storyteller.
2. Musical Intelligence. You can detect rhythms, patterns, and tempos in things that seem to have none at all, like chirping birds, crickets, and even some of the music your parents listen to. You can "hear" tone and pitch, and you may be talented at playing one or more musical instruments, either by ear or with instruction. You may appreciate many kinds of music.
3. Logical-Mathematical Intelligence. You instinctively put things in order and comprehend quantities, often in your head. Numbers and math concepts come easily to you, and you love brainteasers, logic puzzles, games, and computers.
4. Visual Spatial Intelligence. You readily notice when a building (or painting, or person) is not quite symmetrical. If you're an athlete, you can judge almost perfectly the angle needed to score a goal in hockey or a basket in basketball. You can mentally rotate complex forms, and you can draw whatever you see. You're good at taking things apart and putting them back together, and you love games.
5. Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence. You are good at handling and manipulating objects, and you move your body with grace and ease. You enjoy training your body to do its physical best, and you may be a great mimic. You may be talented at one or more crafts - carving, sewing, weaving, and making pots.
6. Interpersonal Intelligence. You easily understand other people, perceiving their moods and feelings. You're a natural leader and a skilled mediator; you can break up a fight between two of your friends and still remail on each person's good side.
7. Intrpersonal Intelligence. You understand yourself very well; you're profoundly aware of your feelings, dreams, and ideas, and you're true to your goals. People may say that you "march to the beat of a different drummer." You enjoy journaling. (Are you keeping a journal while reading this article?)
8. Naturalist Intelligence. You feel a deep connection to the natural world and its inhabitants - plants and animals. You enjoy experiencing and observing the out doors, and you may be a talented gardner and/or cook.
9. Existential Intelligence. You enjoy and have a talent for grappline with Big Questions - like the meaning of life and death, who we are, why we're here, and why the world exists.
10. Spiritual Intelligence. You are sensitive to and have an interest in spiritual and religious matters. You exprience wonder and awe; you're aware of the "otherness"; and you have faith.
