When there are problems within our body, health professionals send us to the lab to carry out confirmatory checkups. Patients will have to go through ultrasound exam of the target organ. Ultrasound technicians are the people able to do the tests. In ultrasound, our internal organs and tissues are susceptible to sonic wave imaging. The device used in recording images is termed sonographer. The doctor instructs the specialist on what specific angles must be worked on. As said before, only a bona fide ultrasound technician can carry out this type of lab exams. It’s not as simple as you think. Even if the core function is to only conduct sonic imaging to the patients, this type of job needs correct education and training before you can be certified. Nurses, medical technologists, not even doctors are allowed to do a procedure except when they're authorized.

Education is not an issue. Almost all medical schools now offer this program. Apart from the classroom lectures, on the job program can also be practiced through internship programs. This is to be certain that you will be well prepared for the task after being certified. Some students maximize their medical profession by moving to this program after getting general radiology because the two medical courses are somewhat connected. Accreditation does not come only one time. There should be a continuous skill upgrade for an ultrasound technician to keep his job.

As to the income, the range is from $50K to $70K a year. Salary might depend on where you are working at. You have hospitals with good paying job due to the difficulty of the cases or considering that the patients being served are high profiled people. Apart from the earnings, various compensation sources such as benefits are given to them. A few of these are health and housing benefits. If you are getting this job, you've two alternatives. One is to apply directly to a hospital and another is to have an employment agency to assist you. Generally, having a consultant will ease your effort in job seeking since they will be the one to get your employer. Placement consultants can also provide offshore job opportunities offering larger pay. In having an agency though, you must be aware of the fees.

Regarding job requirement, consider this; no hospital can survive without an ultrasound procedure and all ultrasound products should be managed by an ultrasound technician. So you won't have to worry of not getting employment after qualification. But of course, competition among job seekers might pressure you. Making sure that you get right job at preferred location, stay bankable by continuously improving your knowledge and accreditations. If you can, attend seminars, workshops etc..
