A great tutorial on how to make hand rolled wax cinnamon bun tart melts.

These little Hand rolled Cinnamon Bun Tarts are easy and fun to make once you get the hang of it. It just takes a little practice and you will have some great gifts for friends and family. Their homes will be smelling great too!

First gather everything you will need from the "Things You'll Need List" down at the bottom. You will want to determine how many cinnamon bun tarts you will want to make and then melt that amount of wax. One pound of paraffin wax will make about 60 to 70 quarter sized cinnamon bun tarts.

Start melting the wax in you presto pot on low or melt in a double boiler. Paraffin wax has a melting point of about 125 degrees. So, you will need to heat up the wax to about 170 to 180 degrees to make sure the candle color and fragrance oil distributes well and that there are no small chunks of wax floating around. Make sure to use a candle thermometer for this since paraffin wax can catch fire at 375 degrees.

After your desired amount of wax is melted you can pour it into your mixing pot(you can use an old coffee can for this). Now you will want to add your candle color. I usually use a brown for all my cinnamon bun tarts and sometimes add a red or black to make them darker. After your color is added you will want to stir the wax until the color is evenly distributed. You can test the color by dabbing a small amount of wax on wax paper and letting it dry.

After your color in thoroughly stirred you will need to add your desired amount of fragrance oil. If you melted 1 pound of wax you will want to add 1 to 2 tablespoons of fragrance oil. Just adjust the flagrance oil to your liking. Although if you add too much fragrance oil to the wax your tarts will be greasy. I would add no more than 2 tablespoons. Now thoroughly stir your fragrance oil into your wax.

After you have all of your candle color and fragrance oil mixed into your wax you can let the wax cool to about 130 degrees before pouring. You will want to have a metal cookie sheet/baking pan ready for pouring the wax into. Make sure the pan has sides so that the wax does not run off the pan, but not too high of sides that they get into the way when cutting the cinnamon buns.

Pour enough wax onto your cookie sheet making sure it does not run over the sides. You will want your wax to be atleast 1/8" thick. At this point you can sprinkle some ground cinnamon on top of your sheet of soft wax to make them more primitive looking. Let the wax harden just a bit. Don't let it harden to much or you will not be able to cut it. If it does harden too much you can use a heat gun to soften it. I always put on a pair of latex gloves at this step to prevent the fragrance oil in the wax from irritating my skin. With your knife you will want to cut 1/2" strips around about 8" long to get quarter size cinnamon bun tarts.

After you have cut your strips of wax start at one end of the strip and start winding or rolling them until you get to the other end and smoosh the open end on the side of the roll. These still may feel soft and look they may open or unravel but they will harden. You also may have to work with your wax just a bit to get it at a good rolling temperature. Sometimes the cinnamon bun tarts tend to break if they are too hard or too soft as you roll them up.

After your cinnamon bun tarts have hardened you may want to make them look as if they have icing on them. In another mixing pot (can use an old coffee can) add about 8 oz. of melted wax adding about 2 teaspoons of fragrance oil and mix thoroughly. There is no need to add color since you are making icing. After you have this mixed let it cool a bit and then put on your latex gloves and start dipping your cinnamon buns. You can hold you cinnamon buns from the bottom and dip or use some tongs for dipping. You can also take a ladle and drizzle your wax icing over your tarts. After you have the tarts iced lay them on waxed paper and let them harden. You can package these into cello bags and tie with ribbon for gifts or store them in freezer bags.

Place one or two in a tart warmer or simmering pot to melt and enjoy the aroma. Things You’ll Need:
