How to save money at the grocery store using coupons, grocery store ads, finding clearanced items in the bad economy.

Who doesn't want to save money at the grocery store. Here's a few steps to help you save when grocery shopping for you and your family.

The first thing you want to do is make sure you don't go to the grocery store on an empty stomach. Most people that do this always come back home with way more items than what was on their shopping list.
And always prepare a shopping list before heading out to the store and remember to stick to your budget.

When you are preparing your shopping list be sure to check the refrigerator, pantry, cabinets and other places you store food to make sure of what you will need to purchase. This keeps you from purchasing items you don't need.

To find coupons look in the sunday paper, your local paper, flyers that come in the mail, magazines and you can also find coupons on the internet that can be printed off.
Coupon Trains are another great place for coupons. Most coupon trains are found on internet forums. Coupon Trains are when people mail out an assortment of coupons to one another on their coupon train and as they get the coupons in the mail they will take out what coupons they would need and replace them with ones they don't and then mail them to the next person on the coupon train.
You can also find coupons at online coupon clipping services such as The Coupon Clippers and The Coupon Master. These are great websites where you can go and look through all of the grocery coupons they have and pick out what you need and they will mail them to you for a fee. These coupons are usually the ones from the sunday paper.

By joining clubs at grocery stores such as Kroger can save money and they usually send you coupons in the mail that match up with items you usually buy. Also be sure to save those little trailing coupons that print out with your receipts that some stores have such as Kroger, Dierbergs, Schnucks and Walgreens. These also are for items you usually purchase.

http://www.shopgetorganized.com You'll also want to keep track of your coupons using some type of coupon organizer. Once you've compiled your coupons be sure to match them up with the grocery store sale ads. If you don't have the actual paper ad most stores will have their ad on their website.

Once you get to the grocery store look for the items that are only on your list unless you see a great deal on something your going to use and just can't pass up. And only use coupons on items you know you use. Don't buy something just because you have a coupon knowing you probably will never use it.

Some grocery stores will match other stores ads or give you a better price for the same items. If you find that your grocery store will do this be sure to bring those other store ads with you when shopping.

As you are grocery shopping be sure to look at the top shelves, bottom shelves and on the end caps of the isles because these places are where clearanced items or sale items are usually found.

One big mistake some people make when grocery shopping is when they see an item that says for example "buy 2 for $5.00" they usually think they are getting a deal and that you have to buy 2 items to get the deal. But at most all stores you can still buy the one item and get that for $2.50 and still get a discount. Because you may only need one of these items for now or it could be perishable and would not be worth purchasing two.

If you have an Aldi or Save-A-Lot in your area try to atleast get your main staples such as flour, sugar, eggs, milk, etc. at these discount places. Some times these discount grocery stores are already 50% lower and sometimes more than the big chain grocery stores. One big drawback about discount grocery stores is that most don't accept coupons. But that's ok because most of their items are cheaper than if you would use a coupon at the big chain stores.

And finally be sure to have some kind of organizer or someplace to keep all of your grocery receipts because you never know when you will find a rebate for those items you bought at the grocery store that where on sale and used a coupon with, and then can get a rebate check for. That's when you can sometime get items for free of course excluding the stamp for mailing in the rebate.

Tips when grocery shopping:

Paper clip coupons to matching ads in the sale paper.

Try to go grocery shopping alone.

Save your grocery store receipts for rebates.

Try not to drive all over to lots of different stores wasting gas.

Always stick to your budget.

Don't get taken for the buy 2 for a certain price discount unless it's buy one get one free at a great price.

Be sure not to go grocery shopping on an empty stomach.
What's great about the big name grocery stores is that they will double coupons and sometimes triple coupons which is great for grocery's you can't find at discount grocery stores.
