Creative Writing: How to Write a Poem for Autumn

With so many vibrant colors in the trees shouting with yellows, greens, oranges, and rustic textures, autumn is the best time to do some creative writing.

With so many vibrant colors in the trees shouting with yellows, greens, oranges, and rustic textures, autumn is the best time to do some creative writing. The crisp air breezes through your hair and around your face, and there's a coolness in the air that is almost comfortable at the same time. Writing a fall poem can be inspiring, and with the right backdrop and scenery around you, almost any amateur can write a poem. You don't have to be a professional writer or published-all you need is a passion for the season.

To begin writing your autumn poem, take a notebook and head out to the great outdoors somewhere at a state park, a local playground, or even your own backyard. Find a place that is full of the trees where you can spot the leaves dancing through the air from the trees. Don't forget your camera too-possibly a digital camera if you have one. If you take your digital camera, you can set some photos with your autumn poem. Find a spot to sit either in the grass, concrete, or picnic table. A few may glance your way and wonder what you are doing-but don't mind them. There are artists who may take seats to sketch the beauty of the fall outdoors. You on the other hand, are creating your own picture with words.

Begin writing down words of what you see. Write down descriptive words first. Try observing the trees. What do you see? Note down the colors of the leaves that appear. For example, you can write, "red and orange leaves," or "green and yellow" leaves. You might even describe what kinds of noises that they make such as "crunchy rustic leaves."

Observe the sounds of nature all around you. Can you hear children playing the background? Do you hear the breeze blowing?
