It is COLD! But you are heating up looking at the utility bill. Here are ways to stay warm, save money, and enjoy winter more.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy Step1 Check the insulation on your house. Google the "R-value" of insulation needed for your area and check it against what is in your house. Adding insulation will save money in the long run. Check into tax breaks if you do. Step2 Check for leaks or drafts. A piece of paper can help. See this ehow article for more: http://www.ehow.com/how_2004148_find-air-leaks.html Step3 Turn down your thermostat. Program a thermostat (or do this manually every day) to lower the temperature to 63 at night and times when you are not at home. Step4 Buy fun slippers kids beg to wear.Wear more clothes during waking hours, and more blankets at night. This will help you turn down the temp while staying warm. Slippers work wonders on hard floors. Step5 Close shades at night, open them on sunny days. Step6 Find out if gas or electricity is cheaper in your area, and use the appropriate energy. Step7 Check into government tax breaks, and cash rebates on renewable energy sources such as solar power. These may make it worth investing in over the long haul. Step8 Exercise at home. Cut out the gym membership (big savings), turn off the thermostat for an hour (big savings over time) and work up a sweat in a sixty degree room. Step9 Drink more hot drinks. Step10 Cuddle. Cuddle while drinking hot drinks.
