Everquest Paladin Leveling Guide Getting to the End Game as EQ's Holy Warrior Tank Class

Feb 25th, 2009 by Laratacita

Paladins are one of four tank classes in the game. Leveling this class quickly relies on grouping and using stuns to keep a monster's attention on the player.

Rangers may be the outdoor tank class. Shadow knights may be Everquest's evil warriors. The paladin is the hybrid attack class that relies on the powers of his god and his weapons to fulfill his group role. The role of the paladin in Everquest is simple, groups expect him to tank. His holy spells can aid in healing, but he will never be proficient in this art as Everquest's priest classes.

Leveling an Everquest paladin takes patience. Their soloing abilities are not as good as the ranger or the shadow knight. Unlike the ranger, paladins remain tanks throughout their career. Their low damage per second rating and even more limited healing abilities do not make them top the desirability lists of raiding guilds. Should no cleric be available, these holy warriors of Everquest can bring the dead back to life at higher levels.

Starting Paladin Leveling in Everquest

There is little difference in playing the mighty warrior or the wimpy wizard when a player gainst his first few levels. Most Everquest players spend these levels killing rats, skeletons, and other creatures that roam their newbie areas. A new character should complete the newbie armor quests and replace the starting weapon given to him by his guild master before level 10.

After a paladin ventures beyond the newbie zones, he should learn more about how to be a tank. The job of an Everquest paladin is to use his spells and abilities to keep aggro on himself,so that the other members of the group can do their job. This class is more effective at keeping a monster attacking him than a warrior because a paladin can use his many varied stun spells to make sure another character does not start to be attacked by getting on a monster's hate lists

The paladin accomplieshes this by using stun spells that do a small amount of damage, but generate a higher position on the hate list of a monster. If the group moves into a heavily undead area, a paladin can have a little more fun with his high damage undead direct damage spells.

Everquest Paladin Soloing Spells

Paladin leveling by soloing is not the fastest or the best way level. The key to soloing is selectingthe right mobs to attack and soloing in the right zones. The paladin should use stun spells as frequently as possible, and using the classes innate healing abilities to keep alive. The technique takes practice and a player must keep track of his hit points.

The process is simple, a paladin attacks a mob, casts stuns as often as he can to prevent the mob from attacking him as much as possible. If the paladin selects undead mobs to attack, he then casts the direct damage spells that work on that type of monster to speed the process up. When his hit points are extremely low and the option is available, he should use lay on hands on himself.

Paladin leveling goes easier and faster when the player keeps his characters in groups. A player that establishes a reputation as a good tankshould be able to find pick-up groups consistently.

Best Zones for Paladin Leveling

Where to go for a group friendly class is not as making sure that a paladin can find a group. Zones with a large amount of undead give the paladin an advantage over other classes. The player who is looking for a suggest list of places to level should read the leveling guides linked to in the resources secton.
