a review on the animated movie "Horton Hears A Who!" directed by Jimmy Hayward and Steve Martino

I have always loved animated movies and this goes straight to my most fave list. The film starts with an eccentric jungle elephant named Horton who accidentally discovers a microscopic town (Whoville) of microscopic people (the Whos) living in a speck of dust on top of a pretty pink flower. Thanks to his big ears, he heard a tiny yell of help from the speck as it floated past him as he swam through the waters of Nool. Horton makes contact with the Mayor of Whoville and after a lot of crazy events after their first conversation which by the way convinced the Mayor that his town is indeed small, the two characters realized that Whoville needs to be relocated to a safer place. That would be Horton's job since his the big guy holding the flower. The task won't be easy (the conflict hurrah!) especially with a kangaroo as the self-proclaimed leader of Nool (pronounced as 'null'), threatened by the elephant's charm to the animals of the jungle, comes into the scene and makes Horton's life as "life threatening" as possible.

I would have to say that the animators here have really outdone themselves with this film. I especially love the water, and the falls in Nool. There were so much detail in each animal's fur, feathers and skin, in Whoville's architecture and the pretty pink flower itself that carries Whoville. They made it look so real.

Another aspect of the film that I love is the humor.  It's cute and not forced, goofy but not overly played. And the characters and supporting characters are all lovable in their own ways and unique and served at least some purpose somewhere in the film. :) Truly a classic that would be a timeless legacy for the kids.

I give my salutations to Dr. Seuss for his imagination and wonderful word play!

To wrap things up these are the reasons why YOU should see this film: visually stunning, a talented voice cast, well placed humor, & a perfect story with a message that's true and real. :)

Enjoy watching it and remember:

"Persons are persons..no matter how small." -Horton
