Airplane Flights can be exhausting or a fun break from the everyday work week if you plan ahead and bring the necessary supplies. The ten fun flight activities will keep you engaged and ready to either return home or pre-launch your vacations plans. What to do? My favorite is to read all the way but many feel ill or can’t concentrate well or get bored or forget to bring a book. These alternatives can help the time pass quickly.

Sleep : Fun Airplane Flight Activity #1

Sleep is a sure way to get to your destination well-rested. A good sleep isn’t easy to accomplish on most flights. Be sure to put your sensitive documents and expensive items safely away. Bring an eye mask, ear plugs, glasses case, contact lens case and cleaning and wetting supplies, and talk to your doctor about a sleep aid so that your sleep is worry free and restful. Don’t forget to dress in warm, breathable clothing.

Computer Activities : Fun Airplane Flight Activity #2

Bringing a laptop with pre-loaded books, games, movies or travel photographs can be a great way to have fun during a flight.

Journal : Fun Airplane Flight Activity #3

A notebook and pen can allow you to capture your thoughts, track your itinerary, sketch, or play games during a flight. Set up your notebook with your itinerary; provide helpful cues to your memory such as plants, animals, temperature, potential outings, people you meet and photographs you take.

On a recent trip to Peru, we flew from the Amazon river to Cuzco over the Andes Mountains. This was new territory for me and the changing patterns of how people lived really was an eye opener. Our flight was delayed due to a storm, so when we finally took off, we headed straight into storm clouds. The changing cloud patterns at near sunset were almost as fun as the fields.

Learn a Language : Fun Airplane Flight Activity #5

Bring your language book on long airplane flights and practice writing and using reading foreign language phrases.

Play Travel Word Games : Fun Airplane Flight Activity #6

I learned a game in grade school where you have a word and four categories. The object of the game is to find items in the categories beginning with letters from the word. Use this game to learn foods, cocktails, foreign language phrases, animals, etc. for the locale you plan to visit. Games books like Sudoko, word find, crossword puzzles and the like are also good.

Exercise : Fun Airplane Flight Activity #7

On long airplane flights, it is often really helpful to get up and stretch your muscles by walking the aisles. Also circling your joints, pointing and stretching your toes, reaching up and to the floor and turning your head side to side can help blood flow through your body. Be sure that when you do these you don’t irritate your fellow travelers.

People Watch : Fun Airplane Flight Activity #8

It’s hard not to notice other people on a packed flight. Imagination games where you make up stories and backgrounds for those on board can help time pass quickly on a long airplane flight.

Learn about Your Destination : Fun Airplane Flight Activity #9

If you haven’t had the chance to do any pre-planning, a flight can offer the time to find out about activities, events, and facts about the history and culture of your destination. If you buy a travel book, cutting out only the pages appropriate to your visit can reduce the weight.

Crafts: Fun Airplane Flight Activity #10

Airplane flights can be a great place to do your crochet, knitting, fold origami, sew, embroider or make jewelry. Store your supplies in a small bag and bring them in your carry on.
