Advice for People Who Have You Forgotten What it is to Relax and Have Fun

Is life is so full of worries and cares that you're almost afraid to 'switch off' and unwind? When silence surrounds you is there so much going on in your head that you don't want to stop and listen to it?

Because of this, do you immediately look for something to do? You want to take your mind off life and responsibility but at the same time, you're probably exhausting yourself in doing so.

Habits that Prevent Relaxation

Maybe you don't even realise you're doing it. Maybe you've never really thought about why you won't take time off to relax. Maybe you've become a creature of habit. You feel you have to do this and you must do that and the word 'relaxation' just doesn't fit into your busy agenda.

But if you really think about it, how wonderful it sounds. "Relaxation". Savour the word. What does it mean to you? Rest, a holiday, a few days off work, peace, silence, solitude?

Everyone needs to relax. It's a great cure for tension, nervous headaches, insomnia. Life's so busy that often people forget about their own needs. A couple of aspirin might help ease your headache, but how about getting to the root of the problem. If you've got too much on your plate, it's not pills you should be considering. It's a change of lifestyle.

What can you Live Without?

You need to decide what you can live without. Rid yourself of the clutter in your life. Pull out of obligations that have become a burden. Arrange your time so that you have moments to spare in which you can just 'be yourself'. Relax, have fun, restart old hobbies.

Relaxation doesn't just mean doing nothing. When did you last read a good novel? There's no better escapism than losing yourself in a fascinating story. Relaxation is not over indulgence. Relaxation is important for your good health.

Probably you've never thought of how much it's costing you through time and effort to live such a busy lifestyle. No doubt you want to give your best and you want to do all you can to make others happy. But what about YOUR happiness too?

Reluctance to Admit You're in a Rut

Maybe sometimes you're reluctant to admit how tired you are. Deep down, you probably realise that you could do with making a few changes. That's good, because you must acknowledge and admit that you DESERVE some time to yourself no matter what demands others may be making on you.

Get close to nature. Enjoy the spaciousness and silence of the countryside. Ancient folk knew that being close to nature helped to release curative and creative energies. Sit by a river and listen to the water flow. Leave your watch at home. Let your mind wander.

Force yourself to arrange these moments of relaxation and then you'll find that rather than feeling obliged to relax, you're actually enjoying it. Rather than worrying that you can't relax you'll realise that it's an important part of life. You aren't a robot.

Make Your Needs a Priority

As well as routine, responsibility, obligations and burdens, you must think of your own needs too. And one very important need is to take time of to relax. Don't think you've forgotten how. Do it, and you'll see what you've been missing for such a long, long time.
