Starcraft 2 - Terran vs Terran - Counters

A simple guide on how to combat individual units when going against terran while using Terran

Hi everyone,

In this guide, I'll be talking about single unit counters against other Terran units. Almost every game I go into, I will almost always meet a Terran player (I mostly play 2v2) Usually, I will prevail, though I have decided to compile together this list to help others.

Top 2 most annoying units of Terran

1. Banshees
2. Reapers

When I go against Terran, either I get reaper rushed, or I get bansheed. Of course reapers can be scouted pretty easily later game, and banshees can be a bit harder to find out. If the other player is smart, he will hide them behind his base or somewhere that won’t attract attention.

Marines:

Reapers: Reapers have a bonus against light armor, and will do a lot against them, but they do cost more to build and can get outgunned.

Hellions: Also have a bonus against light armor, and do damage to area in a straight line, making them a decent early game counter.

Siege tanks: Can take out loads of Marines if placed with a height advantage and can shoot from a huge distance.

Marauders:

Siege tanks: Outrange and outgun them severely and if you have a height advantage then they can do a lot of damage.

Marines: Marines can be spammed easier, and can take on marauders if in high enough numbers.

Banshees: They can't hit air, so banshees are a good late game counter.

Thor: Not the best, but if accompanied with other units, then they can do a lot of damage to marauders.

Reapers:

Marauders: Marauders with concussive shot can slow them down so they cannot get away. Reapers also do almost no damage towards marauders.

Bunker + Marines: If they try to Reaper rush you, then you should build bunkers and fill them with marines in your mineral line to stop it.

Siege tanks: If your enemy decides to come a bit late, then these things will make quick work of Reapers.

Banshees: Obvious

Thors, Battlecruisers.

In anycase that you get reaper rushed, try to get your SCVs somewhere safe.

Ghosts:

Any detectors: Ravens, missile turrets, scanner sweep. Once the ghost is found, then its not that hard to kill him. If he is nuking you, then you have to quickly search for that red dot, scan or something and kill, or you evacuate everything out of there. Once you hear the warning, you only have about 20 seconds to find and kill or evacuate.

Hellions:

Banshees: Anything in the air will kill them, but they can't necessarily catch up with them.

Marauders: since they are heavily armored, they don't take as much damage from hellions, and concussive shot and slow them down, stopping them from running away.

Thors: They are really heavily armored, and deal a lot of damage to ground units, making them a good counter.

Bunker + Marines: If they are trying to harass workers, then this in your mineral line works pretty well.

Siege Tanks:

Height Advantage: If you have siege tanks, then it's important that you get the height .

Banshees: Can't attack air

Battlecruisers: Can't attack air

Marauders: A last resort thing, they do bonus against armor
Getting close enough to the siege tank so they can attack you is an option too. Medivacs can help put marauders down right next to them

Thors: As long as they have enough health to get close to it and shoot, then thors will do fine against them.

Thors:

Battlecruisers: Not the cheapest option, but a yamato cannon really does hurt, and the thors air attack doesn't do the best against heavy armor air units.

Mass Marines: Mass marines can beat a few thors

Marauders: it only takes a couple of marauders to take down a thor, and marauders have a bonus against armor, but not the best.

Cloaked banshees

A couple of siege tanks: You will need a height advantage

Vikings:

Marines: Vikings can't hit air, and if they do transform, the time it takes for them to do it is long enough for marines to kill them.

Missile Turrets: They can’t be hit back

Battlecruisers: If there isn't enough Vikings, then Battlecruisers are able to beat them easily.

Thor: A very good counter, as they can’t get hit back and they have a humongous range and can hit clusters of them.

Medivacs:

Anything that can hit air pretty much

Banshees:

Mass Marines: If there isn't anything else, this is a last resort weapon.

Detectors: Incase they try to cloak up.

Battlecruisers: They can't be hit back

Vikings: The best counter, as they cant be hit back and they also do massive amounts of damage to them.

Ravens:

Anything that can hit air

Battlecruisers:

Mass marines: Stimpacked and mass marines will work as a last resort weapon against them.

Vikings: Work best, but you will need a few of them to take 1 out. Luckily they are easier spammed.

Thors: If you have enough, then you can take 1 down. Thors anti air isn't the best so this isn't the best counter you can get.
