Text: I Samuel 17: 1-58 (NIV) You can defeat Goliath and end up the winner at all circumstances.

Your Goliath can be anything namely problems, obstacles, hindrances, sickness but let me clarify though I used a person here, Your Goliath can never be a person.

1. Know the one weakness of your opponent and strike it with your best shot.

I Sam. 17:49 - "Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground."

David did not need all the weapons Goliath has, he aimed for the target.

2. Know the one strength you have and build on it.

I Samuel 17:37 says "The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.""

From the start, David knows his one True Strength and that is the Lord God from Heaven. He build on it.

In fact, David enumerated the details of what God will do with Goliath in the battle in I Samuel 17:45-47

"45 David said to the Philistine, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the LORD will hand you over to me, and I'll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give all of you into our hands.""

3. Remember it's not by might, nor by power, but by God's Spirit. It's not your battle but God's battle.

4. Goliath became intimidated over David that he removed his protection away from his one weakness - his head. Goliath has a weak head, figuratively and physically speaking.

I Sam. 17:5 says "He had a bronze helmet on his head " pertaining to Goliath but in verse 49, it says "The stone sank into his forehead" meaning somewhere in the battle Goliath removed his helmet to protect his weakness and that is his head. Don't be conceited and prepare for anything. Practice makes perfect as they say. Don't over estimate and ignore your goliaths.

5. David became intimidated with Goliath that he involved God in the battle.

David mentioned and acknowledged God before joining the battle, start of battle and during the battle.

6. David is prepared to run anytime because his body weight is light and he wears no armor, while Goliath was prepared to die because he challenged a whole army like committing a suicide.

He's just wearing his regular shepherd work clothes in the battle, no fancy weaponries or steel protection. But he got something that Goliath don't have. The name of J-E-S-U-S. (five smooth stones)

I Samuel 17:40

"Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd's bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine."

7. Goliath in his human strength became conceited and defied even his own Creator that led to his downfall.

I Samuel 17:26:

"Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?""

Proverbs 16:18:

"Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall."

8. David's eyes are on the long term rewards, while Goliath's eyes are only to defeat one guy from Israel.

I Samuel 17:26:

"David asked the men standing near him, "What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?""

Focus your eyes on long term goals more than short term goals to motivate you.
