Surviving an economic downfall by being prepared in your career

The more work experience you have the more employable you will be. Hence, you will be on the outside of the unemployment line.

All around me people are getting laid off. I hear only of how there are no jobs out there. How will anyone survive? Although I could not forsee the future at the time, I essentially pepared myself for this day. And when I look at the Help Wanted ads I see unlimited possibility.

The first mistake that many people made was that they limited themselves to one skill. In your present employment take advantage of every opportunity to cross train. The more skilled you are the more valuable an asset to the company that you are.

The second mistake was limiting themselves to one career. I understand that many think their resume is more attractive to an employer if it portrays few jobs with a long shelf life. And bouncing around from one thing to another is a big no-no for many, but that is exactly what I did.  And now I am licensed in three careers, and I am proficient in each area of expertise. And I never went to college. I also never paid for my education. I kept looking until I found employers willing to sponsor me. If they want you that bad, they will make it possible for you. Have confidence in yourself. And utilize any bit of training you may have had, even if it was just a summer position. There are plenty of jobs out there. You need to polish up on your skills and go after it. It is time for a change.
