Split Up Family Time and Homeschooling Time Activities
Learn how to split up the family time activities and your homeschooling time activities.
Homeschooling is a wonderful opportunity to teach your children at home and not have them in traditional education. One small problem sometimes arises with homeschooling. Homeschooling activities become the focus of the family unit and end up merging with family activities. It is important to learn how to separate homeschooling activities from family activities. Use this handy how to guide to learn how to separate homeschooling activities from family activities.
Take Some Fun Family Field Trips
One way to separate homeschooling activities from family activities is to take some fun family field trips. There should be no focus on meeting the homeschooling requirements while on the family fun field trips. No homework, notes or school-related issues should be brought up during this fun time. The kids will of course learn, but the focus should be on family fun instead of on homeschooling requirements.
Have a Start and End Time for the Homeschooling Schedule
Traditional school begins and ends at a certain time each day. Most career jobs begin and end at a certain time each day. It is important that with homeschooling there is a set start and end time. This will reduce the chances of family activities and homeschooling activities merging with one another.
Keep Weekends for Family and Individual Time
Allow the weekends to be free for just family fun and individual fun. Don't focus on the homeschooling requirements during the weekends. Weekends should be kept completely separate from homeschooling activities. This will help to keep family activities and homeschooling activities from merging with one another.
Have Specific Family Activities that are Never Used in Homeschooling
Keep certain activities that are part of your family life just for that, family life. Don't merge these activities into a learning experience that can meet the homeschooling curriculum. Instead, they should be just for the family and family time.
For example, there are many things that children can learn with folding laundry activity or cleaning their rooms. However, if there are no activities that are just family oriented, it will be hard to leave homeschooling activities for just one set start and end time of the day. The two can become merged and hard to distinguish between one another.
Children Learn to Separate Work and Family Life
By keeping the homeschooling activities separate from the family activities, children learn to later in life separate work and family life. The things focused around a career will be left at the office where they belong.
When homeschooling activities and family activities merge, kids never learn to distinguish between working environment and family environment. They can become workaholics with no boundaries between the different roles in their lives when homeschooling activities and family activities end up merging together.
