St. Patrick’s Day parade will happen in New York this year to celebrate the religious holiday of the Irish. St. Patrick is the saint that was responsible for spreading Christianity throughout Ireland and they celebrate the holiday in remembrance of the saint. They celebrate by wearing green, having parties, parades, and green food coloring. You’ll get to see a lot of green decoration, foods, face painting, nails and others at the parade.
This March 17, 2009, you can participate in the New York St. Patrick’s Day parade with Michael J. Gibbons parade Grand Marshall. You can see the parade from 5th Ave. and from 44th to 86th streets, starting at 11am. You can see the parade on NBC. You’ll get to see high school bands, politicians and bagpipers marking up from Fifth Ave. to 86th St. The parade will be over around 4:30-5pm.
The best place to view the parade is at the North end of the parade route or at the upper steps of the Metropolitan of Art. You can have a bad viewing spot at the shopping center and work-a-day crowd. This is one of the biggest and most famous parades out of all parades in New York so you might want to be there for the green fun. The Central Park roads will be open for traffic. Pedestrians can cross the parade route on 49th, 55th, 57th, 58th, 59th street. You’ll probably want to get there early for better view and participation. You can also show your spirit by wearing a green hat and green clothing or necklace. Anything green is great or else you’ll get pinch.
