Here are the ten most amazing species of dinosaurs.

Dinosaurs are believed to have lived about 245 million years ago during the so-called Mesozoic Era and lasted for

180 million years. This period is also called the Age of Reptiles. The era is divided into 3 periods (from 245 to 65

million years ago): Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous. Here are the ten most amazing species of dinosaurs.

Stegosaurus

This genus of dinosaur is commonly called "plated lizard" or "roof-lizard". Despite its huge size, this 3 ton herbivore

giant (roughly bus-size) had a brain the size of a walnut that's why it was tagged as the "dumbest dinosaur".

Eoraptor lunensis

This dinosaur's name means "dawn plunderer", is a carnivorous, or possibly omnivorous creature had lived about

227 million years ago that is why it's considered the oldest species of dinosaur.

Hadrosaur

Haudrosaur, known as "duck-billed lizard, is a dinosaur with the most teeth. This plant eater had 960 cheek teeth. It is

called the duck-billed lizard due to the similarity of their head to that of modern duck.

Mamenchisaurus

Mamenchisaurus, commonly named "mamenchi lizard", was a plant-eating four-legged dinosaur with remarkably long

neck. It had the longest neck of all dinosaurs with a length of 33 ft long.

Ankylosaurus

This amazing genus of dinosaurs, with bony plates, studs and spikes lining its entire back, even its eyelids had spike,

is considered the "best defense" dinosaur. In addition to this, even its tail had a thick knob of bone at the end of it, which

was probably used as a club against its enemies. Ankylosaurus may have weighed over 6,000 kilograms (13,000 lb).

Its name means fused or crooked lizard.

Tyrannosaurus rex

Undoubtedly, this is the "most famous" of all the dinosaurs, the "star" of the show. As a matter of fact, a gigantic

sculpture of this creature was built in the town of Drumheller in Alberta, Canada and is considered as the "world's

largest dinosaur" with a height of 82 ft and a length of 151 ft. See image and details here.

It was one of the largest land carnivores of all time which measured 12.8 meters (42 ft) long, and was 4.0 meters

(13 ft) tall at the hips and may have weighed from more than 7.2 metric tons to less than 4.5 metric tons.

Troodon

Troodon or the "wondering tooth" is the smartest dinosaur. It had the largest brain size-to-body-size ratio of all known

dinosaurs. It's believed to have been as smart as modern-day birds. This species was a small dinosaur, about 2

meters or 6.5 ft in length, 1 meter (3 ft) tall and weighed 60 kg (130 lb).

Ornithomimus

Ornithomimus is the fastest of all dinosaurs. It is commonly called "bird mimic" and is known that could run about 40

to 50 miles per hour. Wow, that's fast, really fast. This genus of dinosaur that looks like an ostrich was 12 ft (3.5 meters)

long, 7 feet (2.10 meters) high and weighed around 100-150 kg.

Seismosaurus

The largest of all the dinosaurs is the Seismosaurus or quake lizard. It is now known as Diplodocus. This amazingly

mammoth dinosaur measured about 177 ft from head to tail and stood about 18 ft tall. It way had weighed about 113

tons. This awesome creature is the longest dinosaur known from a complete skeleton.

Compsognathus

If Seismosaurus is the largest, the smallest is the Comsognathus or delicate jaw. This tiny creature was about the size

of a chicken and weighed about 6.5 lbs. It was a bipedal and carnivorous dinosaur with long hind legs and a longer tail,

which it used for balance during locomotion.
