How to Wash Dirty Cloth Diapers and Covers
Want to cloth diaper your baby but have no idea on how to wash the dirty diapers? What more information on how to wash dirty diapers before you began your cloth diapering experience. Read below for an easy step by step guide.
- Soak all diapers and covers in a cold wash. Do not add any detergent. You can add in a small amount of baking soda if the diapers have a real strong smell to them. Let the cycle finish.
- Second and last wash cycle set the washer to HOT and add in 1/4 amount of laundry detergent. Remember do not use any detergent with perfumes, dyes, bleach or fabric softeners. Best detergent is any Free and Clear kind that you may be able to find. Purex makes one that is safe on diapers. If your washer is able to set a temp for the rinse cycle set it to cold.
- After the two wash cycles dry them on high heat. Again do not use Fabric Softener sheets! After the first cycle take out the covers. You can hang the covers to let them dry instead of putting them in the dryer. If prefolds/diapers are not fully dry, dry them for 30 more minutes.
- Remember cold water is to soak and get stains out. Hot water is to sanitize and wash the diapers.
DO NOT USE ANY FABRIC SOFTNER LIQUID OR SHEETS!
Remember only use 1/4 cup of detergent
You will only have two cycles for the washer
