When I was looking for documentation about displaying animations in papervision the general consensus was to use the DAE class and load up an animated Collada mesh. That seemed simple enough, until I wanted to find a decent Collada animation to use as a demonstration. Having artistic skills that resemble the end result of 3 year old who stuck a crayon up his nose and then sneezed on a piece of paper I was reliant on grabbing a freely available animation off the web. Not an easy task with a Collada file.

There are however a huge selection of good looking Quake II models available out there, and Papervision also supports loading MD2 files. You simply use the org.papervision3d.objects.parsers.MD2 class, load the file name or embedded MD2 ByteArray and supply a texture. The only real trick to using the MD2 class is to know the names of the animations. The sample application has a list of the standard Quake 2 animations which you can select from the main screen, or copy from for your own application.
