Are you a bird lover? Do you have a pet bird? Well, one of the most popular species of birds as pet is the parrot. Parrots

are one of the most favorite pet animals in the world not only because of their beautiful and colorful feathers but more

importantly, because of their ability to mimic human voice.

1. African Gray Parrot (Psittacus erithacus)

This species of parrot is one of the most intelligent birds and the most sought African species because of its readiness

to imitate human voice. The African Grey Parrot is a giant-sized parrot of the genus Psittacus, endemic to primary and

secondary rainforest of West and Central Africa. They feed primarily on nuts and fruits, supplemented by leafy matter.

2. White-fronted Parrot (Amazona albifons)

Like other parrots, this species is one of the most sought species because it has a long potential life span, usually around

40 years. They also can imitate a range from 30 to 40 different sounds. The White-fronted Amazon, also knownas White-

fronted Parrot, or adopted slang term Spectacled Amazon Parrot is a Central American species of parrot.

3. Yellow-headed Amazon (Amazona oratrix)

This species of parrot is an endangered Amazon parrot of Mexico and Central America and named the Yellow-headed

Amazon also known as the Yellow-headed Parrot, Double Yellow-headed Amazon, etc. It is a popular pet and an excellent

talker. Albeit it is only lawful to keep captive-bred Yellow-headed Amazons, these are widely available (if somewhat expensive)

and their personalities make them highly desirable pets; they have been kept as such for centuries because they are among

the parrots that "talk" best. Their vocal abilities are generally considered to be bested only by the African Grey Parrot and

matched by similar species such as the Yellow-nape Parrot. They are also considered loud, active, intelligent, funny, and

willful. They like to test their owners and to attract the attention of visitors.

4. Yellow-naped Parrot (Amazona auropalliata)

This parrot readily mimics sounds including human which is probably the reason why it is popular in the pet trade. The Yellow-

naped Parrot or Yellow-naped Amazon is an Amazon parrot. It is found along the Pacific coast from southern Mexico south to

northern Costa Rica. In common with many parrot species, it feeds on nuts, berries, seeds, and fruit. Deforestation is reducing

the number of these parrots in the wild together with illegal removal of young for the pet trade.

5. Red-crowned parrot (Amazona vividigenalis)

This species of parrot is one of the most adroit at mimicking human speech but are generally noisy, aggressive and hard to

breed. This parrot is often kept as a pet and can be very affectionate and playful when given the attention they need from their

owners. They should be given toys to play with if left alone. Although some are excellent talkers, they are best at mimicking

sounds. The Red-crowned Amazon also known as Red-crowned Parrot, Green-cheeked Amazon, or Mexican Red-headed

Parrot, is an endangered Amazon parrot native to northeast Mexico. The current native wild population of between 1,000 and

2,000 is decreasing. The main threats to its survival are the illegal export of trapped birds from Mexico to the USA, and the

destruction of habitat.

6. Hyacinth Macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus)

This species of parrot is one of the most expensive in the world. Their popularity as pets has taken a heavy toll on their

population in the wild. Birds in captivity fetch a price of around $9,000-$12,000 US. Native to central and eastern South

America, the Hyacinth Macaw, or Hyacinthine Macaw, is the largest macaw and the largest flying parrot species in the

world. In terms of length it is larger than any other species of parrot.

7. Rainbow Lorikeet (Trichoglossus haematodus)

This species of parrot is one of the most sought because of the very obvious reason - their colorful feature. This kind

of birdis very amusing and affectionate as pet but is much more demanding than other parrots. Captive lorikeets have

a long lifespanof more than 20 years. They are well-known in aviculture for their liquid droppings and energetic and

playful nature. TheRainbow Lorikeet is a species of Australasian parrot found in Australia, eastern Indonesia, Papua

New Guinea, NewCaledonia, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
