Microsoft Paint is a program found in Microsoft Windows that you could use to reduce the size of any Digital Image stored on your computer. Let me ask you.
Have you spent a lot of time and energy creating a shop or sales ad on the Internet, typing and writing up what you consider a near perfect description? Have you taken a fair amount of time, gone through the trouble of adding tags, organizing it in it’s proper sections, (so your work can be found)? In addition, taken time figuring out and setting up the delivery charges and delivery statements. You have checked all the pictures you will use; prepared the files and feel they are just right for uploading.
You have worked hard so far and this is the final stage. Upload your pictures, and you are done. It is grand finale time, so to speak.... Hit the submit button.
Waiting.... Waiting... It comes back to you and you see a message that reads- uploading files too large "Please make sure your file size is under 300kb to be safe.” Then you begin to read the Image caption or fine print that reads
Tips: Your original image should be around a 1000 pixels wide. “You say” What? What does that mean? Now you have to try to figure how to reduce the size of your PIXELS so that you can finish. Perhaps finishing means to close out and loose all the work you just completed; now you have to start all over.
If YOU or anyone you know has ever experienced inability to upload an image due to file type or size, take heed, you are NOT alone. Read on.

Step 1

Start menu.

Go to the start menu click on (START). Follow with mouse to (All PROGRAMS) keep scrolling to (ACCESSORIES). Another menu pops out scroll to and click on (PAINT).

Step2

Once paint is accessed . A blank document will appear. As you will notice the top menu will read FILE, EDIT, VIEW, IMAGE, COLORS and HELP. With the mouse click on (FILE) then click (OPEN).

Step3

The left side says (LOOK IN) when you press the little arrow on the right hand side. A drop down menu appears with more files to choose from. Look for (MY PICTURES). If you don't see my pictures, simply look for (MY DOCUMENTS). From there, you should be able to access and find (MY PICTURES).

Step4

Click on (MY PICTURES)to open file.

Step5

Depending on how you've organized your photos. Choose the folder or photo you want to access. I've organized all of my photos in folders. For this demonstration I have used (GALLERY). Click on specific folder to access the digital photo.

Step6

Select the digital photo or picture you want to reduce in size. Click the thumbnail or filmstrip. This will send the image into Microsoft Paint. (Don't be alarmed if the photo looks distorted). It needs to be reduced.

Step7

Once the photo is shown in the paint program. Look again at the top menu. Look for IMAGE click on (IMAGE). Simply scroll down the list to click on (Stretch/Skew). Another window will pop up. Pay attention to the two top boxes it will say (Width) 100% and (Length) 100%. Delete those numbers and enter 50 in each box hit OK. This should reduce the photo enough in size for uploading.

Step8

Now you'll want check to see if the image has been reduced enough for uploading. We are looking for Pixels to be around 1000, to check go back to the top menu. Look for IMAGE. Click on (IMAGE). Scroll down to attributes. Click on (ATTRIBUTES). Another window will pop up showing the Image specifications. Look at the numbers in the boxes reading (WIDTH) and (HEIGHT). Do the numbers for pixels read at or below 1000? To close out this box hit OK. Even if they do not read below 1000 you can still change it.

Step9

If you are not satisfied with the way the photo size has come out. Simply go back to the top menu of the paint program. Click (EDIT) then click (UNDO). This will take the photo back to the original size and state.

Step10

Keep experimenting with numbers and optional sizes until you've achieved the desired results.
Once satisfied I would recommend saving your finished reduced file by selecting (SAVE FILE). Clearly, label it so that you'll remember that the file was reduced. Example would be. (REDUCED FOR UPLOADING).

Tips & Warnings

  • Create a folder to store the specific images you have reduced. Label the folder accordingly. Ie: (ITEMS FOR SALE)
  • Before making changes to an image, create a back up copy. To do this simply right click the image click copy and paste. Work with the copied version.
  • Reduce an image by 50% is a good place to start. If you need to reduce the image further. Make sure to follow step 9 before reducing the image for the second or third time.
  • The (UNDO) option is limited. It's best to (UNDO) changes each time before continuing or experimenting further. If the image is reduced too much, the possibilities of reversing pixels to enlarge are more difficult
