How advanced chess players can win, playing positional chess.

Positional chess is the superb analytical strategy that all chess experts adhere to.  Assuming that you know basic chess, there are five coherent lines of reasoning or steps that all chess experts take before they make a move.  This article is not for a novice and that is way it is so succinct.  The professional chess player will understand the following steps:

  1. Achieve better pawn structure than your opponent.
  2. Have superior king safety.
  3. Your chess pieces need to cover more than your opponents.
  4. Always play a point system.  Queens are nine (9) points.  A rook or castle is five (5) points.   A bishop is three (3) points.  Knights are two (2) points  and pawns are one (1) point.
  1. Before making a move write down how many of these five points of strategy you have obtained compared to your opponent.  For example your opponent may have achieved better pawn structure and better developed pieces, but you have the other three points of strategy.  This will increase your likelihood of winning or taking the remainder points of strategy from your opponent.  Accumulation of these five points of strategy overwhelmingly result in a win.  Any expert will tell you this.  It is not unusual for a player to go a year without losing using this strategy of positional chess.

Tip:   Don't be apprehensive about writing these points of strategy on paper.
