Brides generally choose their wedding bouquets to suit the colors of their wedding. Your ancestors chose their bouquets according to local superstitions.

For Good Luck
Many brides tuck something blue into their bouquet or tie a blue ribbon to the base of their bouquet for good luck.

Bridal Bouquets to Ward Off Evil Spirits
Brides of the past few hundred years, carried bouquets of sweet smelling flowers, but that wasn't always the case. In medieval times, a young woman would carry bouquets of garlic, chives or any other herbs that had a strong fragrance to protect themselves and their new union.

The Origins of Orange Blossoms
Orange blossoms at one time were even more prominent than the roses that we see in some many bridal bouquets today. These fragrant blossoms were thought to bring health and happiness to Spanish brides.

Mother’s Have Their Say
Mother’s of the bride and groom have little to do in the weddings of today, but in years past, both women would walk up the aisle draped in flower garden that were then transferred to the shoulders on their children. It was to wish them health and happiness throughout their lives together..

Tossing the Bouquet
The reason for the toss is probably not what you might think, but it does have everything to do with luck. In years gone by, unmarried young ladies would try to snatch a piece of the wedding gown which resulted in tearing pieces from the cherished gown. So, to stop this practice, the “tossing of the bouquet” was brought into the festivities instead. The wedding gown was protected from eager fingers.
