Does your Garmin Nuvi 885T ever stop or freeze up?

Is the touchscreen on your Garmin Nuvi 885T unresponsive or has it stopped working?

As with most magic, electronic devices around us nowadays, there is a brain inside these units called 'firmware'. Over time, for whatever reason, this firmware can become confused and stop operating the way that the Garmin Nuvi 885T did when it was new. The solution for these problems is to replace the Garmin Nuvi 885T’s internal programming and instructions with new ones, called 'reflashing the firmware'. This is an easy, automated process made simple by downloading and running some software from the Garmin website. A discontinued product, you can still find it here.

Download their software, and then run the file. You will see this screen (except it says 4.70 now):

Click the NEXT button and you are almost done. Follow the prompts and soon your Garmin Nuvi 885T will have all new software and should be running smoothly again. Now that you have upgraded the software of your unit, you might consider backing up your personal data and performing a hard reset of the device.  A hard reset will clear all user data from your Garmin Nuvi 885T, and is a recommended step when upgrading or replacing your device’s firmware.
