Let me give you some basic facts about Melbourne, Australia. This city is the capital of Victoria and was settled around 1853 by white settlers the city really grew and prospered when gold was found there not too long later and today it has a population a bit more than 3 million. The gold rush also left Melbourne with beautiful Victorian style buildings that can still be seen, St James Old Cathedral is one popular tourist destination, and also lots of beautiful parks.

Like many cities in Australia Melbourne also is very multicultural so you can explore food from the four corners of the world, there is quite a large China town you could visit and the city also has a large population of Greeks and Italians. If you visit during Winter you could even see some films at the International Film Festival that is held here, and if you want to watch some Aussie sports you could go to the Melbourne Cricket Ground where you can see cricket and Aussie football being played.

If you like shopping then you should try out the Melbourne Central, home to some 200 shops and restaurants in the city centre, this is a great place to kill a day in shopping and eating! There are also plenty of trams around Melbourne that you can take to view the architecture of the city, and you can buy a ticket for less than 5 dollars that you can use all day!
