Every bride wants to make her wedding as perfect as it could possibly be. Perhaps borrowing an old custom from brides through the centuries could be just what she is looking for. And I hear, a lot of these customs bring good luck too! How could a bride turn her nose up at that??
1. An custom to bring good luck is for the nervous bride to be fashionably late to her wedding. And this is not a mere few minutes, but ten long minutes. So, if you have been to a wedding that had everyone wondering if something was wrong, it may have simply been the bride following an old wedding tradition!
2. My daughter-in-law carried her late father's reading glasses with her down the aisle. It was the only way that she could think of to have him at the wedding with her. And, I'm sure that he was there with her in spirit!
3. I married into a British family, but didn't know that it was lucky to carry a little chimney sweep charm hanging from a ribbon from your bouquet. I wish I had of known about that one. Would have loved to have carried on that tradition. Every new bride can use a little good luck!!
4. It is thought that if the bride and the groom were to wear the color green, the day before the wedding, good luck will follow them through their life together.
5. You have heard of the tradition... something borrowed, something blue. Many brides are now incorporating blue flowers into your wedding bouquet to take care of this well known tradition. Both my sister and another friend from Face Book did just that. Wrapping a blue ribbon around their wedding bouquet is another, but the most interesting that I have heard is to wrap a penny in a small square of blue silk that can be tucked into the bride's shoe. If you are wearing sandals, or your shoe can't make the space for the silken wrapped penny, you might be able to tuck it into your bodice. And if it is a penny that you found, you could consider it a lucky penny!
6. We are all familiar with the kiss between the bride and groom at the end of the ceremony. This apparently can be traced back to weddings that took place hundreds of years ago. The kiss was actually, the deed that sealed the contract between the bride and the groom.
So, there are a few of my favorites, but I'm sure that there are many more and I can't wait to unearth them!!
