Make Your Own Furniture Polish

Jun 17th, 2010 by Anna T

Make your own furniture polish from scratch out of items you may already have on hand in your home is the best way to not only save money, but also ensure that you are keeping harsh chemicals away from your living environment.

When you need furniture polish, you probably simply go to your local grocery store like most people and purchase a bottle for three or four dollars. In general, furniture poilsh isn't very expensive no matter how much you pay for it because it's not something that most people go through all that often. However, knowing that you can save money if you make your own furniture polish, even if it's just five dollars a year, and also use something that is al-natural and works just as well as what you can buy in the store is a very good feeling. In recent years, people have become more conscious than ever about the chemicals that go into everything from what we clean our homes with to what we put into our bodies. Some of the information out there is shocking and scary. It's best to do things the old-fashioned way whenever you can. The old-timers knew what they were doing.

All you need to make your own furniture polish:

  • 1/2 cup lemon Juice
  • 1 cup olive oil

Combine the ingredients in a standard spray bottle and shake up. Use just as you would use any other type of furniture polish: spray it on the surface and rub it in with a rag, going with the grain of the wood. After applying, use another rag to wipe off the surface. Your furniture will gleam just as well as it does with the other chemical-filled stuff you're used to using, and you probably didn't even have to spend a dime! Please note that when you make your own furniture polish, you need to shake the mixture up so that the olive oil and lemon juice mix together before each use.
