Yes to Mental Issues, No to Criminal Charges

None of us know what causes people to lose it when we do, yet even though we expect others to be tolerable to us, we are quick to condemn others.

The United States of America needs to show more tolerance to each other, my goodness it seems as though the only thing we know how to do is to arrest our citizens when they obviously need help. There are times when someone needs to be arrested and confined, then again there are times when a person is obviously in need of some psychiatric  care or just a shoulder to cry on. As a society we are too quick to judge another persons shortcomings and to consider them as weaknesses.  When will we realize that we all have problems and even though some of us deal with our problems in ways that could be considered as responsible, others fall short of our expectations.

After seeing the news article of a woman from Ohio who called 911 for the purpose of finding a husband, I thought its was sad. None of us know what causes people to lose it when we do, yet even though we expect others to be tolerable to us, we are quick to condemn others. The sad part of this story, turned out to be the response from the 911 operator, who was obviously inconsiderate to the fact that this 57 year old woman was suffering from some sort of dementia. I only hope that she never gets old and needs someone to be understanding to her.

I guess I should not be surprised though, we have come to expect this sort of behavior from our brothers and sisters. We have come to expect the appearance of a police officer, when it should have been and EMT. We have come to expect our citizens to be arrested and thrown in jail for drug uses, when instead they should be seen by drug rehab. We have become a country of jail keepers, where we prefer to lock people up, rather than help them, how sad is that?

Is it a problem of resources? Maybe resulting from a lack of awareness of how serious these issues are? Good article.
