While it is hard to say if the nature of the universe is a philosophical or scientific subject to write about, or even a religious one, I will try to explain the nature of the universe as I see it. My view is of an infinite universe that moves in endless circles.
The universe is a very large place. If you included the space in the void that stretches out forever, past the edges of any light or mass, then it is infinite. Some scientists say that the universe came into being at the big bang, 13 billion years ago, but they never properly explain what happened before the big bang. Some scientists like Stephen Hawking suggest that the universe was tucked up in a singularity of infinite density in which time did not exist, but they would be wrong, because time is space, and if time didn't exist in this massive black hole singularity, then neither would it. Let's try to look at how the universe could exist in a singularity. The only thing we know about that could possibly do that is a black hole. A black hole is made up of black hole atoms, which form when ordinary atoms get so cold, the electron stops spinning around the nucleus, and it collapses, taking away most of the volume of the atom, but none of the mass. So you have a super compressed atom which sucks other atoms into it, and so long as there is a sufficiently large black hole, it will continue to suck in everything unless you can heat the atoms back up enough to stop it. So, the only way that the universe could exist in a singularity, is if the atoms in the last universe were sucked into a supermassive black hole, which then exploded when the atoms finally split into energy, in another big bang.
More than that, for this process to even happen once, it would have had to happen before that, and before that, an infinite number of times, because a big bang cannot happen without the compressed atoms to make it, and a big crunch cannot happen without the atoms from a big bang. Energy is eternal, and cannot be created or destroyed, and everything which can possibly happen, has already happened an infinite amount of times, and will continue to happen an infinite amount of times. That is the nature of the universe. The nature of life is quite different, and hard to explain in a few paragraphs. But let me try. The nature of life is similar to the universe, except that individual consciousness is involved. It is hard to say if life starts and ends with one person, or if we are reincarnated as ourselves, in an identical universe, or as everything else, like a bug, or a flower. Science would suggest that individuality is just an illusion, and everything is one thing, the universe with many faces. So for me, the nature of the universe is, we live and die, and live and die, and feel good, and bad, and good and bad. I don't see the point, but then I do like playing video games.
