Samsung i900 Omnia Wireless Guide. How to connect to a wireless network on the samsung i900 omnia.
Samsung i900 Omnia Wireless Guide
Requirements: A Wireless Network and a Samsung i900 Omnia Phone.
Step 1.
Find out the type of authentication the wireless network is using and the password. This can be done by going to the IP address of the router (see manufacturers instructions) and checking the wireless settings. If you can't access the router you will need to find out the encryption by asking someone who knows such as an IT admin or a store employee for public networks.
Some wireless networks are hidden, which means you will have to find out the name of the network (also called SSID) as well as the encryption type.
Some wireless networks do not require encryption or password.
Types of Encryption are: WEP,WPA,WPA2.
Step 2.
- On the phone go to Start,Settings,Connections Tab,Wifi.
- If you can see the network listed tap on it. If the network is hidden, tap add.
- Select This network connects to the Internet.
- Select Ad-Hoc if needed (this is if connecting to a computer or another device)
- Click Next
- Choose the Authetication type - Choose Shared if the network uses WEP, Choose a WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK is the network uses a WPA password.
- Data Encryption should be WEP if using a WEP password, TKIP is most common for WPA passwords.
- Type the password, making sure you get the case right
- Click Next
- This page you specify to use IEEE Encryption to safeguard data going over the network. If you wish you can tick (use PEAP unless advanced user).
- Click Finish.
Step 3.
You can now connect to the network by clicking connect. If the network goes from Connecting to Connected go to the next step. If it changes to available you probably have a problem with the Authentication type. See step 1 to ensure you know what authentication is used, See step 2 to change it (if unsure try changing one item each connection attempt).
Step 4.
By now you should be connected to the wireless network but there are some settings to change to ensure you dont use another 3G or GPRS connection when browsing the web. This can be expensive if you forget step 4.
- Browser Connection.
Go to Start,Settings,Connections Tab,Browser Connections. Ensure this is set to Automatic.
- Opera Browser.
In Opera click on the Menu (arrow icon in bottom right) and go to Preferences. Go to connection and ensure it is set to Automatic.
Important Note: Many other programs may have individual connection settings. You should set them to Automatic or "The Internet".
To check if a 3G or GPRS connection is being used use the Data Call Manager in Start,Settings,Connections.
Good Luck and Happy Surfing!
