Hurt No More.

A short verse I wrote about a woman's last moments before the angel takes her away.

Taking my last breath, gasping in the air. My shell of a body was weak.

The angel came and took my hand.

Hurt no more, she said. Hurt no more.

Fear turned to desperation, clinging on to the thought of being alive.

Desperately taking one more breath not knowing if it would come again.

Hurt no more, she said, wiping the hair from my eyes. Hurt no more.

She smiled at me, this angel. She knew it was for the best.

I clung to her hand and stared at her face. I saw the eyes filled with love.

Hurt no more, it will only last a few seconds more.

The cancer that had ravaged my body for years was being erased from my body and mind.

I could feel my last breath, my chest starting to hurt and my eyes starting to burn.

Hurt no more, she whispered as she administered the shot. Hurt no more.

The angel in the white uniform slowly stood up and pulled my covers around me.

The memories of my husband, my kids, my friends, my life....all swarmed in my head, muddling the pain.

Hurt no more, she said. She adjusted the IV and leaned over my face.

I hurt no more.
