Energy drinks could be seen in the same light as steroids or cocaine, but they continue to be legal for the most part.

Why are makers of energy drinks so successful? It is because the people of the United States are trying to get so much done in each day. Trying to overcome the many tasks that fill our daily lives force us to use energy we don't have. So we drink a drink that that is supposed to give us a boost. An almost drug like substance that is supposed to get us through the day. For example Red Bull, which could be classified as a performance enhancing drug gives such a large boost it almost allows us to cheat at life. It can be considering cheating because it gives you a un-life like spur of energy. As one takes steroids to perform better and get stronger in sports is like one who drinks Red Bull to get a boost to perform at a job. The advances one makes in a career due to an energy drink are just the same as the advances an athlete makes in sport due to steroids.

The United States has made many substances illegal in this country. Many of these illegal drugs provide a similar type of shot of energy as energy drinks. Cocaine is a billion dollar a year business. The effects energy drinks have on the body, been compared to cocaine and now many energy drink companies make over hundred million dollars a year. But drinks like Red Bull are not illegal. Should they be if they are almost identical in number of consumers, profits , purpose, and even feelingas cocaine? The fact that these drinks are not banned shows that no matter what the substance is it can stay legal depending on who is selling it. If the substance is owned by big companies with fancy lawyers and big offices there is a good chance the substance can stay legal. But if the substance is sold on the street by gangs with violent pushers there is a good chance it will be outlawed. The difference between energy drinks and cocaine is the fact that the government can collect taxes on the drinks. The cocaine business is on the streets and back rooms this disallows the government to collect taxes. Energy drink companies pay taxes and the longer they stay legal the longer the government profits.

Red bull has been suspected in deaths all over the world. In many cases Red Bull has been related to brain illness and seizures that have killed hundreds of people in the world. Although it is not proven that Red Bull killed these people it is a very likely theory that the effects it has on the brain did have something to do with it. The proven trauma Red Bull has on the brain can cause damage from over time consumption or an amount that excedes the brains tolerance. Drinking too much Red Bull is like overdosing. But it is a legal overdose for now.
