How to Start and Run a Lemonade Stand
A lemonade stand is a great business to start in the summer when people are thirstiest! However there are 6 crucial steps you need to take to ensure the success of your lemonade stand. Good luck and have fun!
STEP 1: MAKE YOUR LEMONADE STAND - You can either make it from an existing table or from scratch. I would suggest using an existing table as long as it is not too heavy. You table also needs to display a sign with the word 'LEMONADE' and your price per cup.
STEP 2: MAKE LEMONADE - Again you have two options. You can make it from a mix or make it from scratch. It is easier to use a mix but making it from scratch usually tastes better. You should make about a gallon of lemonade (maybe more, maybe less depending on how much you think you can sell) and put it into a pitcher with plenty of ice and sliced lemons.
STEP 3: DECIDE WHERE TO SET UP YOUR STAND - In order to get a lot of customers, you are going to want to set up where there are a lot of people walking around. No matter where you set up your lemonade stand, make sure to always have a parent or guardian by your side. Some good places to set up are a park with lots of people or a sidewalk on a busy corner. If you can get permission; golf courses, grocery stores and art expos are also good places to set up.
STEP 4: DECIDE HOW MUCH TO CHARGE - Usually 25 cents to a dollar is a good amount to charge. You do not want to charge so much that no one wants to buy any. And you do not want to charge so little that you completely run out of lemonade. If your price is set at one dollar and everyone still wants to buy a cup, consider raising it next time you set up your lemonade stand.
STEP 5: TREAT YOUR CUSTOMERS - When you are treating your customers to their ice cold lemonade, remember that they are paying you. So when someone asks for a cup of lemonade, make sure they are happy too! First collect the money. Then pour them their lemonade with ice. Next, ask them how it was and listen to their suggestions. Finally, tell them to have a nice day!
STEP 6: DECIDE WHAT ELSE TO SELL - The best thing about having a lemonade stand is that you can sell more than just lemonade. It is actually a really good idea to have more options for your customers to buy. In addition to lemonade, you can sell popsicles, soda pops, ice cream, cookies, brownies and even different flavors of lemonade.
A lemonade stand is a fun business to have, especially if you are under the age of 12. But always remember to have a parent or guardian with you at ALL TIMES. There are a lot of bad people out there and you may even meet a few at your lemonade stand. If you do think someone is acting suspicious or creepy, simply ask your parent/guardian to serve them for you.
As long as you have fun, you should consider your lemonade stand to be a SUCCESS!!!
