What my Social Work degree means to me
I am doing my Masters in Bilingual/ Bicultural Social work and this is part of my scholarship essay.
I have always possessed a drive to empower my community and be an advocate for change and the betterment of our people. I’d love to see people of Color, people of economic hardships and today’s youth rise up and make something amazing of themselves and really represent what it means to achieve success, no matter the odds. I want to be at the forefront of this empowerment revolution by helping people succeed.
I know one day to achieve that success is through social work. I admire social workers and am very proud of my own Hispanic heritage and want to work with the Spanish-speaking population. I am thrilled to have found a Bilingual/Bicultural Social Work program right here in New Mexico!
Just thinking about using my acquired language skills to assist needy families drives my passion to begin my Masters and begin working with families and youth in need of guidance and other areas. The best feeling is knowing I can really make a difference.
