Capers also contain powerful antioxidants. These antioxidants are effective in the treatment of inflammation. In history, the caperberries were believed to have aphrodisiac properties. In Hebrew, caper means "desire." They are also known to improve liver function. The caper root bark has been used to treat anemia, arthritis, and gout. Capers contain a powerful substance called rutin. Rutin is a very powerful antioxidant. Here in the United States, capers are grown in California. There is a plant that can be easily confused with the caper plant. It is called the caper spurge, and it is poisonous. Be sure that you have the true caper and not confuse caper with caper spurge.
