The Advantages Of No Plastic Cd Shipping

Apr 3rd, 2010 by Martine Pauwels

Today more people buy their music on line. Not all go for m3. Many of us are still nostalgic and go for the real disc. But wrapping and shipping options may vary and here you might find some guidelines to chose for non plastic shipping.

Many buy their Cd's on line today, because many artists promote themselves on line. The Internet is a new marketing playground for business and also for art.

So if you chose to buy a CD on line, some stores like CDbaby, or many eBay sellers, especially in the US, offer the non plastic shipping option.

What does this mean?

No plastic means that the Cd's will be shipped without jewel cases. This may have several advantages.

1) Lesser shipping costs

Yes, without the jewel case the package will be less heavy and bulky. This will save shipping costs and for international costumers also possible custom fees.

2) Safer shipping

I noticed that the discs themselves do not break that easy while wrapped in simple cardboard, but jewel cases often get broken and damaged in the post and these can cause scratches and damage to the Cd's.

3) Lesser storing room

Many people do store their Cd's in pouches or other systems that do not require a jewel case anymore, since those things take a lot of extra space.

4) Save money

If you do like to store your Cd's in jewel cases, keep in mind that it might cost you less to buy a stag of empty jewel cases than the additional shipping cost for having your disc shipped in them.

You might have some spare jewel cases from screwed up CD-R's you burnt or if they arrive broken, you might still need to get some new ones. So it is a guess and it might not be a saving.

5) Some artists do not use jewel cases anymore

If you buy and indie CD, there is a big chance it might be wrapped in a card board sleeve anyhow and not in a jewel case. So if you buy them and go for the jewel case, you still receive a flat shipping. They are in sleeves that remind of the old records, if you might understand this better.

If you doubt this, you can always contact the artist to ask how the Cd's are packed.

Also are there digi-packs and other ways to present Cd's today, that jewel cases are becoming less used.

So if you want to buy a Cd's on line, especially for international orders, it is always a great thing to see if there is a no plastic shipping option.

Also keep in mind that if you buy a CD from an indie artist, you support that person a great deal in his/her livelihood and more money of what you had spent, will be going to him/her and you will be pleased buying a CD that you love, instead of one that had cost millions to get your attention drawn to it.

If you really love the CD, buy more than one copy and give on to a friend. Also spread the word on that artist. It is a small thing that can make the world better.
