Ten Famous Box Office Hits Filmed In Canada
It's no big secret that a lot of the movies are shot here in Canada because of our landscape and its cheaper. Read on to find out about some of the box office hits that where filmed here.
X-Men

X-men to date is one of the best super hero movies in many people’s eyes. The movie was shot in Toronto, Canada on September 22, 1999 to March 3, 2000. The budget for this movie was a little over $75,000,000 but when it was done and hit movie theatres, it made over $295,999,717 worldwide.
Silent Hill

I found Silent Hill to be a good horror flick when it came out. It was full of action and always kept you on the edge of your seat through the whole movie. Silent Hill began filming on Colborne Street in Brantford, Ontario and in Hamilton Ontario as well as in Toronto. Filming started in September 19, 2003. The movie had a production cost of $50 million US and after being released, raked in $99,982,632 million at the box offices worldwide.
The Pacifier

In 2005, Vin Diesels movie “The Pacifier” hit the theatres. The movie was filmed in Key West Florida, Mississauga Ontario and in Toronto Canada. The budget for the movie was about $56 million. After being released in theatres on March 4, 2005, it made $198,006,880 million worldwide.
Resident Evil

One of my favourite movies of all time was partially filmed here in Toronto, Canada. The movie was full of action and full of blood and kept you waiting and wanting more. The film had a production budget of only $35 million, which is smaller then most budgets for high quality films like this one. Once it was released to the public, the movie had generated over $103,200,000 worldwide.
Mean Girls

Mean Girls was a huge hit when it was released in March 2004. The movie was filmed at Front Campus and Toronto University. Although it was a funny movie, it was not really my cup of tea. The budget for this film was again another low budget coming in at just a little over $18,000,000 million. Once it was released to theatres, it brought in $128,947,227 worldwide at the box offices.
Tommy Boy

This is an older movie but one of my favourites and I was surprised to find it had been filmed here in Canada only an hour away from where I am living now. Tommy Boy was filmed in eight different places through Canada and one other place in the United States. This films budget cost have not been found as of yet but it did gross $32,648,673 million worldwide at box offices. Although it is not of one the best movies I have seen, it is very enjoyable and fun to watch if you want to kill some time.
Freddy Vs Jason

I love a good horror flick and when this movie came out; I figured you could not go wrong with the two biggest names in Horror teaming up in one movie together. It was not what I thought it would be but never the less it turned out to be a good flick. This movie was filmed in Toronto Ontario as well as in British Columbia, Canada. The production budget for this film was about $25 million and once released to theatres in August 2003 and had made $114,326,122 worldwide at the box offices.
Capote

Not a movie I enjoyed but many other people did. This movie was filmed in Austin, Texas and in the Stony Mountain Penitentiary in Manitoba, Canada. The films production budget was the lowest I have seen yet with only a $7 million dollar tab when it was done. After being released to theatres, the movie did not do as well as expected but it did bring in $46,309,352 worldwide at the box offices.
Exit Wounds

I totally loved this movie when it first came out and even to this day I still like to sit back and watch it from time to time. This film was shot in Calgary Alberta, Edmonton Alberta, Toronto Ontario and Hamilton Ontario all located with Canada. This movies budget was $33 million US and once released to the public in March 2001 the movie had brought in $79,958,599 worldwide at the box offices.
The Day after Tomorrow

I loved this film and though it was one of the best movies I have ever saw in 2004. This movie was filmed in parts of Toronto Ontario and Montreal Quebec. It was also filmed in eight different places in the states and even parts where done in Tokyo Japan. This films budget was one of the largest I have come across yet, coming in at a whopping $125 million US. Once the film was done production and was released to theatres, it made $542,740,799 worldwide at the box offices. To this day, I still think this is one of the best movies I have ever seen.
There has been a lot more movies that have been filmed here in Canada, but these are my favourites. All box office numbers and production fee’s came from http://www.the-numbers.com which I would like to thank for the valuable information I needed to complete my article.
