Waterworld Creatures With Wings
Here are fishes with wings. Some of them are actually capable of gliding high in the air.
It's a bird, it's a plane! It's superman? Of course not, it's a fish! Yes, some fish do have wings like birds. Down, down ...
and here they are - waterworld's creatures with wings.
Band-wing flyingfish (Cheilopogon exsiliens)

This creature of the waterworld is one of the most elegant-looking flyingfish. It have large pectoral and pelvic fins
that looks like wings and like other species of flyingfish, it is capable of leaping out of the water that make it look like flying.
Sailfin flyingfish (Parexocoetus brachypterus)

are not important as food fish, but occasionally taken by fisheries.

One more sea organism that has wings is the Hirundichthys, a genus of flyingfish. This fish has pectoral fins that are
strikingly long, reaching almost to caudal fin base; its pelvic fins are also long, reaching beyond anal fin origin.
Spotwing Flying Gurnard ( Dactyloptena macracantha )

wavy lines on the fins. It has a dull head and a grey or sometimes brown body that is covered with dark brown or black
spots. Although the Flying Gurnard does not fly, it can 'walk' on the bottom by alternatively moving its pelvic fins and short
pectoral fin rays.

This deep-sea creature called the oriental flying gurnard is a flying gurnard found in the Indo-Pacific Oceans at depths
down to 100 m. Their length is up to 40 cm. The oriental flying gurnard has huge, round pectoral fins. The fins are usually
held against the body, but when threatened they can expand the 'wings' to scare off a predator.

California Flying Fish ( Cypselurus californicus or Cheilopogon pinnatibarbatus californicus)

One fish that can actually capable of gliding in the air is the California flying fish, a flying fish of up to 18 inches (45 cm)
in length, and up to 2 lbs (1 kg) in weight. It is the largest species of the flying fish family. It is found in the Eastern Pacific
Ocean, from Oregon to Baja California. While it does not actually fly, it will swim up to 30 mph and launch itself into the
air, using its specially adapted fins to glide for up to 1/4 mile. Wow, that's awesome. Its tail fins will vibrate to taxi along
the surface.
