If you are an aspiring rap artist and you want to learn how to write a rap song, then read this article and see what it takes to put together a good song.

Hip Hop is by far the biggest money making music genre around today. Thousands of young
people want to learn how to write a rap song. It is amazing how rap music began on the
streets of New York City and thus blew up to be a world wide phenonmenon. Every corner of
the globe has seen and heard Rappers and the rap lyrics they sing. Even children in Japan
and Africa can quote some of the most popular emcees rap lyrics word for word.

Now it's very much understandable why you would want to learn how to write a rap song.
Besides it being a lot of fun to rap, it is also very possible to make it into a very
lucritive career. So if your serious about learning how to rap than just read on.

Before you began to attempt to write your rhyme, you first have to find a beat that you can
rap to. There are 2 ways to do this. The first is the traditional way, find a music producer
and buy beats. Second is download beats online. Either way this can be a difficult task
within itself. Once you have your hip hop beats, Then you have to decide what type of rap
you want to write. Do you want to make a gangsta song, a club song, or a song for the ladies,
or a concious song. The best way to go with this is to listen to a few beats and then go
with whatever mood grabs you.

Ok so you have chosen your beat, now it's time decide how your going to flow to it, or the
cadence your going to use for the beat. The cadence or flow should harmonize and blend the
same way throughout your song. This is a key part in learining how to write a rap song.

Now that you have dealt with the beat and a cadence for your rap song, the very next logical
thing to do is come up with a chorus. You have to make sure that your hooks are catchy and
easy to sing along to. They also have to be strong enough to draw your listeners in. Sometimes
you can make the hook simple, this way it will be easy to catch on to. The bar count on your
hook could range from 2, 4, 6, or 8. This requires an understanding of song bars, which is
another key factor when learning how to write a rap song.

Now that you have come up with your catchy hook the time has come to write your 3 16 - bar
verses. Now when putting your verses together, you should build them around the meaning of
your hook. In other words if your hook is about girls with big butts, don't write your rap
about listening to your mp3 player, unless you were depicting listening to your mp3 player
while one of these big butt girls was giving you a lap dance. Rap according to what the hook
is about.

When you write your rap song use this format:

hook(chorus)

verse 16-bars

hook(chorus)

verse 16-bars

hook(chorus)

This is the standard format that most rap songs are written by. Of course you can change up
a bit if your creative. So give it a shot and see how well you do.

On a more technical note the art of learning how to write a rap song requires that you have an above par vocabulary. Most young up and coming rappers fail at this part. This is due to the fact that many don't take the time to read. So when it comes to writing a rap song they lack the words and ability to put an effective message together. Therefore they rely more on the beat to get them by.

As rapper or song writer you should take the time out to do a lot of personal reading. I would take out 20 minutes a day to read new words in the dictionary. Yes this may sound funny, but the words you can add to your vocabulary and knowledge by reading the dictionary on a daily basis will boost your rap word play a thousand fold!

Practice this method and within 6 months you are guaranteed to become an excellent rapper. Now you know how to write a rap song. Click here for more information on rap and music production.
